STAR WARS: Lucasfilm Reportedly Extends Kathleen Kennedy's Contract Through 2024

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's run as the studio's head hasn't been without its fair share of controversy, but a new report suggests that the executive's contract has been extended by three years.

Most of the time, fans would struggle to tell you who's in charge of a movie studio, but when it comes to Marvel and Star Wars, Kevin Feige and Kathleen Kennedy are, in many ways, as well-known as those in front of the cameras. The latter's time as Lucasfilm President has been surprisingly controversial, and we're constantly seeing rumours that Disney plans to "fire" the prolific producer.

Well, according to Puck's Matthew Belloni, Kennedy "recently re-upped her deal for another three years." That means she'll remain in charge of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Willow through 2024.

Despite finding great success as Lucasfilm's head honcho with TV shows like The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars revival, it hasn't been all smooth sailing on the movie side. There have been box office successes, but Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fell flat critically and commercially. Meanwhile, Josh Trank, Colin Trevorrow, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and possibly even Patty Jenkins have all been fired or ended up leaving projects due to "creative differences."

Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss were developing trilogies that never came to fruition, and there are currently no Star Wars movies with release dates.

However, there is an extremely exciting slate of projects on the way from Lucasfilm, including Indiana Jones, a Willow TV series on Disney+, and shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett. On the film side, Kevin Feige and Taika Waititi are both developing separate Star Wars movies.

Everything related to the Mandalorian and Obi-Wan excites me, but other than that there isn't a lot of Lucasfilm that has my interest.

If they don't come up with some new stuff though, they might need someone new in charge that can bring that.
