The Last Jedi opened up in theaters three years ago today and despite mixed reactions from critics and fans worldwide, director Rian Johnson decided to thank them all by sharing a special behind the scenes look on Twitter.

The pictures offer some new look at Carrie Fisher's Leia, Yoda, C3-PO and other creatures. Rian wrote: "I've said it before and i ain't done saying it, Star Wars fans are the BEST. Thanks for sharing all the kind toughts today, can't believe it's been 3 years. Love you guys".

The movie was full of controversial moments and in many ways contraddicted J.J. Abrams' decisions made in Episode VII, but Rian always said that he felt proud of his choices.

Rian Johnson was scheduled to direct a new Star Wars trilogy but, after the announcement made by Kathleen Kennedy at the Investor Day, it seems that his project has now been put on hold.

For now the only new movie with a concrete release date is Rogue Squadron, which will hit theaters on december 2023 and will be directed by Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins.

Patty said that the writer for her new movie deserves his own spotlight. And someone here said that it may be Ruin Johnson sarcastically but I am afraid he may really be. The internet is going to be set on fire by SW fans if he is indeed. And they are right. This guy took a trilogy ready to collapse by JJ abrams and teared it to the ground with his pretentious movie.

Best movie in the saga with Empire for me... I refuse to acknowledge TROS, though.

This movie fascinates the [frick] out of me to this day. Rian seems to love Star Wars and love the prequels and lore behind it all, yet he got Luke and his journey so wrong. There were things I liked (and I partially blame it on JJ being a coward on using Luke so Rian was really plugged into a hole there), and there were things that didn't work at all. I feel like, it could've been half an hour shorter, they could've done the First Order chasing the Rebels through lightspeed, and the Rey/Luke/Kylo plot, and that's it. No casino planet, no weird side plots. Just a simple straight forward story with some weird elements and thrown in twists and subversions. I'd be fine with that. But I also find the movie likeable, as well as Rian. Idk I'm still at war with this movie

Rian is a fantastic director and TLJ is a good film if you ignore the fact that it’s based in Star Wars... however once you remember it’s a Star Wars film - it’s pretty bad.

With all that said; Rise of Skywalker takes the cake on being the absolute worst of the three. Talk about making the wrong choice at every narrative turn. Woof.

@BornToLose - I will say that I do appreciate this film more after watching the dumpster fire that is RoS. I just think he made bad narrative decisions with Luke, Holdo, and all that crap at the casino planet. He also should have let Finn sacrifice himself. Would have made for a much better arc than what we got.

My favorite of the new ones and easily the most unique and the one with the most meat on its bones.

Without an overall plan for the trilogy, and using Luke as a typical JJ mystery box, Rian did a phenomenal job with this film. Genuinely, the only thing I personally would have changed about the film is the setting and agency of Rose and Finn.

Here's my idea; Instead of Light Speed Tracking I think the crew of the ship Finn is on should be suspicious of Finn, as a former Storm Trooper, being a double-agent sending their location to the First Order. Rose could be the first person Finn can convince of his innocence and together they figure out that Phasma (who was unaccounted for at the end of TFA) has stowed away on the ship and is sabotaging things, and as a Captain has a personal tracker, or something. We could say Finn never saw her without a helmet so she could blend and at some crucial moment Finn and Phasma have showdown - maybe she escapes in 'life raft'. And play up Finn's supposed force sensitivity.

Oh well, Rise of Skywalker shit the bed on the good setup in Last Jedi so regardless if you like the film or not it's all moot now...
