Why Han Solo Should Die In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

this is my opinion too. the death of han solo should be the inciting incident of the whole trilogy.

Should he die? No. But Luke should. Luke is the Jedi mentor this time around and just like Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan before him, he needs to die.

As for Han, I think his story should be all about his kids. Forty years after saving the galaxy, Han has found himself in a life he never thought he'd have. He's settled down, he's got a wife and kids, he's no longer speeding around the galaxy getting into trouble. As much as he loves his family, he can't help but feel as if the universe has passed him by. He had this great adventure as a younger man but now he feels pretty useless.

So rather than killing off Han, I'd make his story about essentially bringing back to life. Open with him in a dive bar in the depths of Coruscant, getting into an old fashioned bar fight as he tries to recapture the rush he used to get while outrunning Star Destroyers. Also give Han a somewhat strained relationship with his kids, certainly a son if he has one. Maybe Han sees too much of himself in his son which simultaneously makes him worry what his son could get up to but also be envious of the adventure his son can have.

Have the story focus around the kids but when they get into serious trouble, in spite of whatever problems are there, Han is the first one to stand up for a rescue mission. For Han, this might be one last mission, a last chance to fly the Falcon into danger and feel the thrill he used to feel as a smuggler and a rebel. And you know, you could have him die while saving his kids. He's had his last hurrah and it's time to bow out. But what if he lives and Luke dies? What if whatever threat they deal with in the movie is just a small sample of a far larger threat? Well, Han now has a purpose. He has motivation, a reason to go on and survive to at least the climax of the third film.

That my friends is how you approach Han Solo in the Star Wars sequels.

As a huge Boba Fett fan, I'd really prefer he meet his end in ROTJ, and that be that.

Also, anyone who sees a character die in a film, and assumes he didn't survive really can't be called an idiot. Perhaps you should go get some fresh air, get your head together a bit.

I actually really like Intruders idea. Fett getting his revenge in a dark alley somewhere.

I'm a sucker for shit like that.

I agree with above that he should be kept as a minor role, slightly more than a cameo but nothing more.

Data is a tricky character to deal with because Brent is an aging actor playing an android,but I felt they didn't need to kill him off!The writers could of found a way to have Data age with the rest of the crew!It is science fiction after all!Always a possibility!Killing characters off is too easy!

Solo's death lost its relevance in 1980.

@Ruadh. Boba Fett didn't die. He survived. Dengar helped him. Its in the books. The books that Lucas himself confirmed are in continuity with the films.

Now that Disney owns it though, who knows what will happen. I loved the expanded universe books. Only a couple I didn't read. I feel like I wasted my time reading the huge continuing story that took place in all the books. Disney won't stick to the continuity. They will poop on it. I will rage. I wish there was someone working for Lucasfilm who's sole job would be to keep Disney at bay and let them continue the stories. Not reboot them with sequels that take a different path after ROTJ. They could make the films fit with the books if they wanted to.

I dont think Han should be killed off. I mean he's just so awesome.
