Ready Player One may not have had the most innovative marketing strategy, with some complaints of the trailers and posters leaning a little too heavy on pop culture references. And then there is the source material, which didn't really get the best reviews. But even with all of that to consider, director Steven Spielberg still managed to work his movie magic. After it's unexpected premiere at the SXSW festival, the film received generally positive feedback, with attendees praising the film as an "old school Spielberg escapist popcorn flick." With 95 reviews collected so far,

These are promising words, considering Spielberg's next project is Indiana Jones 5. If nothing else, Ready Player One serves as a testament to the fact that when it comes to getting back to his roots and creating a throwback adventure classic, Spielberg is still at the top of his game.
