Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Speaking with MTV, Fox CEO Tom Rothman talks about the potential rating for Ridley Scott's highly anticipated science fiction film Prometheus. He says that "Not one frame [of Prometheus] will be cut", and confirms that "If that means it’s an R rating, so be it". This should please those who wished to see an R-rating for the movie. He also discusses the "Bold" title of the film. Watch the full interview below:

Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron, Prometheus is set to hit theaters June 8th, later this year.

Better be R rated

Can't [frick]ing wait for this film

Re watched Alien and Aliens again, man are those some great films

Aliens is up there on my list of greatest sequels of all time, next to Empire Strikes Back, Wrath of Kahn, Dark Knight, T2

I hope there's an unrated director's cut for blu-ray?)

For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, ALL Rothman's statement means is:

a. they shot it with a PG-13 in mind, and
b. if the MPAA somehow deems it to be an R, Fox will
not cut it down to a PG-13.

Any director and producer can tell you with 90% certainty what their film will be rated by the time they finalize the script.

If the film was shot as an "R-rated" film, there would be no doubt in Rothman's mind, because either:
a. there would be more than 3-4 F bombs,
b. the violence would be open and notorious (think
Chestbuster set reports of cameraman vomiting in
Alien), and/or
c. there would be nudity/sexuality enough to
immediately qualify the film for an R-rating.

Thus, the only logical inference that can be made from Rothman's statements here is that the film was shot intended to be a hard PG-13.

If, by some slim margin, the MPAA classifies it as an R, it will be a very mild R, and nowhere near the R-rated content of Blade Runner or Alien. If there were a significant chance of the film receiving the R-rated classification, there would be NO DOUBT in Rothman's mind.

Also, if Rothman is speaking the truth, there can be no possibility of an "unrated Director's cut" since Ridley shot the film within the preestablished boundaries of a hard PG-13 horror/action flick.

How will there be an unrated director's city when none of the movie is getting cut?

predicted violence in film: one man's face will burn, one woman will die from a chestburster; all the violence will a. be obscured, or b. occur just out of our line of vision- e.g. we will see the person's back when the chestburster comes out her front, and we will see it erupt over her shoulder. No close-ups, no long shots. The violence LEVEL will meet or exceed that in Alien, but our view of the violence itself will be significantly impaired.

Thus, a hard PG-13 will be earned.

For Prometheus, think PG-13 like original X-Files Movie. Horrific images of bodies burst open by aliens, but no such violence occurred onscreen, though other less horrific deaths did, and some horrific implied violence.

IDK.. it just might get an R rating you guys, because remember the reports over in Spain, I think they got an 18 rating for the film, and some other European country gave it a 15 rating, it depends though maybe they'll change the rating system for it,.. Prometheus rated PG-15

if it IS "pg-13" then an "unrated" cut will be better.

"robin hood" was a good movie, butchered by the theatrical cut.

strange this is even an issue, as early rumors suggested aberrant sexual elements to the story.
but then a PG-13 TODAY can be about as much as an "R" back in the day.

That's what I like to hear...

Not cutting one frame from a film just to make the ratings for kids...

This is how all movies should be made...
