Unaltered STAR WARS Trilogy Is NOT Coming To Blu-Ray

A few days ago, the website comicbook.com claimed that "two independent reliable sources" had informed that Disney is planning to release an original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy on Blu-ray in the near future, but that can be so. Here's why.

Want to make a Star Wars fan happy? You tell them that an unaltered cut of the original Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray is on the way. It is something that every fan has dreamed up since George Lucas lost his mind and tinkered with perfection by adding a bunch of bells and whistles that did the opposite of the intended enhancement of them. A few days ago, Star Wars fans began to salivate as comicbook.com posted an "exclusive" story claiming that two sources had confirmed that an original cut of them was going to be released by Disney on Blu-ray in the near future. There's one small problem as Badass Digest points out, Disney doesn't own the distribution rights of the original trilogy - 20th Century Fox does.

Disney doesn't own Star WarsThe Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. Fox does. They also own the distribution rights to the Prequels.

The rights to Empire and Jedi and the Prequels will revert to Lucasfilm (and thus Disney) in 2020, but Fox will retain the rights to Star Wars forever. In perpetuity. And they'll never give it up. Will they work with Disney to do some sort of release? Sure - there's a lot of money to be made. But unless a deal has been quietly made to give Disney the distribution rights to the original trilogy, there's no chance the Mouse House is working on a rerelease. Now, if the report said that Fox was working on a new Blu, I might believe it. But if the sources don't even know who owns the movies, how can they know anything about remastering or release plans for them? - badassdigest.com

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Perhaps they could be digitally releasing it on Netflix? Forgive me if my facts are wrong, but wasn't Netflix the loophole that Disney found to distribute Star Wars: Clone Wars "The Lost Missions"?

For a site that constantly puts down Feraci and Badass Digest and their reputation...we certainly use A LOT of their scoops.

On a related note, this news was pretty predictable.

I like the alterations....The old version doesn't hold up like you think it does in your mind.

One thing though....please please please fix the Han Greedo scene back to the original. Han shot first!

Me too, especially this one.

Seriously though some of the alterations are great. Can you believe Cloud City had ZERO windows in the original?

Honestly George made a LOT of unnecessary changes, but I didn't really have problems with most of them.

THE ONE THING! THE ONE THING THAT ALMOST KILLED ME...Was the scene in Return of the Jedi...that shit almost killed me.

Maybe Fox will re-release the original trilogy in theaters before episode 7. It would be like printing money. They don't have have to put anything in production. maybe just couple million in marketing, and they would make 100 million easy. Enough to fund another crappy adaptation of a Marvel property they have the rights to.

@Dingbat The best part of that scene was the fact that Vader said nothing, and you could still tell that he was conflicted based off Camerawork and music alone.

Why is Badass Digest's "scoops" being reported as a fact? Articles from that site should have either a question mark or "RUMOR" at the front.

True. George never understood what made Star Wars special.
