It's still a little soon for full-blown Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings spoiler interviews, but a few sites have tried hard to get details from the cast and creative team. That includes The Hollywood Reporter, and the trade did a pretty good job of picking director Destin Daniel Cretton's brain on that big mid-credits scene cameo.
We are, of course, talking about Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, an actress Cretton has worked with in each of his previous movies. Asked if he was instrumental in Carol Danvers showing up, the filmmaker laughed: "We’re all a part of every conversation about who should show up in what scenes. But it happened to make sense, and nothing makes me happier than to include people that I love in the movies that I’m making."
Asked if there was at least an element of him trying to keep their streak of working together alive, Cretton confessed, "No. Well, maybe [Laughs]."
The Shang-Chi director was also asked about the decision not to delve into the origins of the Ten Rings themselves, and he confirmed that the powerful weapons were not explored further in order to withhold some information so that it can be touched on in future movies. "Yeah, but isn’t that what Marvel always does? There’s a lot of things purposefully withheld in the chamber for some exciting things in the future."
With solid opening weekend numbers, we're sure news of a Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel will be shared soon, but it's still likely to be a good few years away, unfortunately.
