SHAZAM 2 Star Rachel Zegler Wasn't Invited To The Oscars... Despite Playing The Lead In WEST SIDE STORY

Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler has revealed that she hasn't been invited to attend the Academy Awards, despite playing the lead in the Best Picture-nominated West Side Story

This might sound hard to believe, but the lead actor in a Best Picture nominee did not receive a ticket to attend this year's Academy Awards ceremony, and it sounds like she has already reached out to ask them to rectify the situation to no avail!

Earlier tonight, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler revealed that she has not been invited to the 94th Academy Awards, despite playing Maria in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of West Side Story.

“Idk y’all, I have tried it all, but it doesn’t seem to be happening,” the actress wrote in a comment to a user on Instagram. “I will root for ‘West Side Story’ from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did three years ago. I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person, but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. Thanks for all the shock and outrage – I’m disappointed too. But that’s okay. So proud of our movie.”

Zegler's post has sparked outrage on social media, especially since this doesn't appear to be some sort of mistake on the Academy's part - it seems they simply chose not to invite her! However, the blame may actually lie somewhere else.

Typically, movie studios are given an allotment of tickets to the Oscars, so in this case, it might well be Disney's fault that the leading lady of their Best Picture contender doesn't have a seat for the show.

Zegler followed-up with a Tweet thanking fans for their outpouring of support.

@Menks123 - Shows been fine, if your talking about results its subjective.

I enjoy the oscars and have been watching it for many years. Only big mistake that happened was the Moonlight and La La Land incident.

@DrReedRichards - Sadly I don't think it matters because the movie flopped horrifically. Amazing film, I think its better than the original but no 1 saw it. Even if the cast were at the oscars it wouldn't matter because viewers didn't care about the movie.

Only 1 who's prob going to be there is Ariana Debose whose most likely going to win best supporting actress.

Oscars has always been what the Oscars was meant to be. The upscale award show for elite actors who are part of the Hollywood circle. No new actor or actress that threatens or poses risk to the image they created will be invited, nominated, or acknowledged.

Everyone should be hitting Steven Spielberg up on this. I'm positive if he put his voice to it she would get a ticket.

The outrage is justified. [frick] the oscars.

Otherwise, Rachel’s new short hair rocks. Hope that’s her snow white look.

Oscars lost credibility when Gwyneth Paltrow won Best Actress over Cate Blanchett AND Meryl Streep in 1999

@abd00bie - It's not like there were no outrageous snubs before then - Pacino over Denzel as Malcom X is much worse than Paltrow's win, IMO. But 'Shakespeare in Love' is infamous for heralding the big-money campaign system that's dominated the process ever since. Some of the best movies and performances get completely ignored because they don't have big spenders paying Academy members to look at them. (See Netflix pushing 'Don't Look Up' over inarguably better movies like 'The Lost Daughter' and 'Passing.'

That's really unfortunate to hear, and really stupid on the Oscar-planners' part(s). As much as I like to think, who wouldn't rather stay home?, going to the Academy Awards is an actors dream.
Having said all that, I really hate social media outrage, which is circumstantially ironic for me to say, I suppose.

A) Who cares?

B) Why is this on CBM? Because she will be in a CBM soon? I’m that case, are you going to post news about every single actor that’s ever been or will be acting in a CBM?
