This might sound hard to believe, but the lead actor in a Best Picture nominee did not receive a ticket to attend this year's Academy Awards ceremony, and it sounds like she has already reached out to ask them to rectify the situation to no avail!
Earlier tonight, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Rachel Zegler revealed that she has not been invited to the 94th Academy Awards, despite playing Maria in Steven Spielberg's adaptation of West Side Story.
“Idk y’all, I have tried it all, but it doesn’t seem to be happening,” the actress wrote in a comment to a user on Instagram. “I will root for ‘West Side Story’ from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did three years ago. I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person, but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. Thanks for all the shock and outrage – I’m disappointed too. But that’s okay. So proud of our movie.”
Zegler's post has sparked outrage on social media, especially since this doesn't appear to be some sort of mistake on the Academy's part - it seems they simply chose not to invite her! However, the blame may actually lie somewhere else.
Typically, movie studios are given an allotment of tickets to the Oscars, so in this case, it might well be Disney's fault that the leading lady of their Best Picture contender doesn't have a seat for the show.
Zegler followed-up with a Tweet thanking fans for their outpouring of support.
