Todd McFarlane Talks About The New Spawn Animated Series!

Spawn creator Todd McFalane talks about the second animated series for the character as well as what the tone will be...

"Absolutely," McFarlane told MTV News when asked whether or not the new series would preserve the old show's dark tone. "We're gong to a cable network, and that's their bread and butter."

"They want stuff that isn't what you can find on ABC, NBC and CBS," he added. "They've covered that field. We have now an area where we can actually do shows that get a little grittier, a little darker, a little more risque."

"To some extent, if it ain't broke, don't fix it," he said. "The three years [that 'Spawn'] was on HBO, it won an Emmy -- two of 'em -- for various reasons. They're going, 'Just give us what you're doing. You know what you're doing, just bring it over here and don't put it on their channel, put it on my channel.' So I don't think it's going to be an issue once we get down to it."

Is Spawn even a comic still? Does anybody outside of the comic geek world even know who Spawn is? Is he still relevant? Somebody please tell me why this would be a good idea.

So, is the Spawn: The Animation, that we first heard about 5 years ago, or an entirely new project?

@LEEE- Who's we? I find Spawn to be overrated. That's just my opinion though. Please give me some insight as to why this character is cool.

What a coincidence, I was trying to watch the original animated series last night....weird. I'm up for a new one! I'd rather see a live action Preacher, though :/

I think Starz is a good place for it.With Spartacus, Camelot and Torchwood, it seems like they're focusing on a lot of genre projects. They did have that Dante's Inferno animated movie earlier this year.

Todd McFarlane didn't create Venom.

I love Spawn, but Todd McFarlane is all talk, he is always talking about a new movie or a new show, nothing ever happens.

weird, felt like I'd stepped into a portal and went back in time. I believe he said the very same thing when they introduced the last Spawn animated series. Ah well, I'll probably watch it [email protected] agree with ya man...but I'm afraid Preacher won't ever happen in my lifetime. Been waitin..and waitin...and waitin some more.

Todd McFarlane doesn't actually wake up every morning thinking that either him or Spawn is still relevant, does he??

The new Spawn is s#!t. He should have never gotten rid of Al Simmons, Jason Wynn.

what about spawn dark ages...
something i like about spawn tows was that they were a little universal... like all simmons wasn't the only spawn. i think mcfarlane would do better to possibly drop al and the whole NY mob scene and start fresh with a new story
