Andrew Garfield Hints That He Wants Miles Morales As The Next SPIDER-MAN

At the New York TASM Event the current Wall Crawler said that he would like the next incarnation to be "a half Hispanic, half African-American actor". In other words the Ultimate version of the character..

Bleedin Cool have posted a brief update from the The NY Amazing Spider-Man event, and while we don't get any footage descriptions, (keep an eye out for that very soon from our own Josh Wilding who attended the London event) we do discover that Andrew Garfield is a fan of the new Ultimate Spider-Man comic, and not only that..

Actor Andrew Garfield was asked, on stage about the honour of playing Spider-Man. He told the crowd that the role is bigger than any one actor, that last time it was Toby, this time it’s him and next time… he wants to see the role played by a half Hispanic, half African-American actor.

Now while he doesn't come right out and say it, it's pretty clear he is talking about Miles Morales, the current Ultimate incarnation of Spider-Man. Now we assume Garfield will be playing the role at least one more time as a sequel to Marc Webb's movie has already been confirmed, but after that? Or a third..fourth outing? How would you guys feel about Brian Bendis controversial Miles Morales gracing the big screen as Spider-Man?

The character seems to be alright for the comics, but to me Peter Parker should be the only Spider-Man on film.

I disagree. Spider-Man is NOT a symbol, like Batman, or Superman, or the X-Men. He IS a character. Spider-Man IS Peter Parker. Peter Parker IS Spider-Man.

peter parker is the only spiderman

not because he is white but because he is a beloved character since he was created

Nahhh... not needed. Parker is the one and only for a main series. That said, they could do a spin off movie, perhaps. Or maybe a TV show?

Agreed, don't want anyone aside from Parker BUT I have liked this character from what I have read is I'd be cool with some kind of spinoff, or whos to say after another few movies we wouldn't welcome the change?

No. Peter Parker is the one and only Spider-Man.

Yeah, this is never gonna happen, at least not till ol' Miles Morales has the multiple decades of cultural impact that Peter Parker has. The studio just couldn't know they would pull in the same kind of cash they would with the better known version.

Why not? Looks like they're telling different dimensions with each reboot. It's only a matter of time before we see a Miles Morales Spidey movie.

[frick] that bullshit! Peter Parker's character as Spiderman has a huge impact on most "comic nerds" so bringing in someone who has yet to put out a legacy like Peter is just [frick]ing stupid bullshit.

Andrew, you've succesfully made me dislike you more.

I guess all the hates getting to him...unless he wants to go the Al Jolson route.

Naturally it'll happen as long as the Ultimate Version still exists in comic form. Hollywood likes to appeal tot he greatest spectrum of audience as possible and moaning comic fanboys are way too small and insignificant a percentage of the greater viewing public to matter.

I agree. By the time Miles [if ever] reaches the big screen Peter Parker will have long been back and the two will be fighting side-by-side. Would be cool to see Miles in his own flick with maybe a cameo from Andrew.

no f*ckin way,if ya gonna do an alternative spidey it should be either spider-man noir or spider-man 2099.

@marvel72 - Hey! And Spider-man 2099 was a minority race, too! At least a minority today...maybe not by 2099...hmm have to run some demographic numbers on that. Also, he only represents one minority, not two, like Miles. Yep, just not as good.

screw miles - Parker is spiderman and that is the only person who should play the role on the big screen.

I've tried reading the first few issues with Miles and I don't care for it. Prefer the non-ultimate universe far better.

Relax people... If that's how he feels than fine... doesn't mean (and we all know it won't) it's going to happen.

Some of you take this sh*t so f*cking personal. Get a grip.

I think it would be pretty rad to see Morales on the big screen. I don't think it will happen, though. At least not for many years..
