Andrew Garfield On His Peter Parker Possibly Passing On The SPIDER-MAN Mantle To Miles Morales

Andrew Garfield has said in the past that he'd like to see an actor of a different race play Spider-Man in the near future, and he talks here about the possibility of his Peter Parker passing on the mantle of Spider-Man to a new actor - and character in the form of Miles Morales - in the near future...

"I have given that thought," Andrew Garfield told Comic Book Resources when they asked him for his thoughts on the possibility of an Ultimate Spider-Man movie starring Miles Morales. In that universe, Peter Parker's death led to Miles taking over the mantle and that's something which the actor think could work in helping this franchise transition into the next. "Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character's comic book life. And I do believe that we can do that. It's something I'm really interested in figuring out; an eloquent way of coexisting, or passing on the torch. I don't have an answer, but I think it's actually a really important move. I think it's a really beautiful and important move." That would arguably work really well, and would avoid yet another reboot a few years from now which would like retell Spider-Man's origin for a third time. As for whether he would be interested in sticking around long enough to play an older Peter Parker, the actor added: "I want it to feel like a circle. I want the two ends to join, somehow. I don't know what that means, yet. I don't know what that means in terms of the quantity of Spider-Man movies I do. But I know that I don't particularly want to be a 40-year-old Spider-Man. [Laughs] I do know that time is fleeting." What do you guys think?

Well from what I am hearing about the next Spider-Man movie I hope its sooner then later. I still will be seeing the new Spidy film so I can judge for myself. But I just won't be seeing it opening day. I think seeing Miles on screen would be great. So I hope that happens.

Always love hearing actors talk about getting out of the roles we enjoy seeing them play. That's always fun, even when it's a totally understandable and level-headed comment.

"WHO???" (Said by almost everyone)

Spiderman should be a teenager. Its part of who he is. I understand what Garfield means where he said he cant be 40 and play Spider-man.

But at the same time...Spiderman NOT being Peter Parker is just weird to me.

But then at the same time again...the average Joe moviegoer doesnt really know or care who Spider-man is under the mask. Just as long as he wears the suit and swings on webs fighting crime. So it might work.

I guess my final thought is after Amazing Spider-man 6 or whatever if they decide that Peter Parker is going to pass the torch to some guy named Miles Morales I'd see the movie and make my opinion on wether its good or not after I see it.

That would be cool to pass to Miles. Or we could continue the story and get another young actor. Thats always a possibility.

Spidey hasn't even hit stateside yet and they're already asking Garfield if and when he wants to pass the torch. Just like Evans was asked if Bucky would be taking over the shield before Cap 2 hit. I hope they have Garfield signed on at least until they complete the movies they've announced. Recasts hurt my head. I know they're not actually talking about recasting Peter here, but still.

Instead of passing the torch to Miles, pass it to the next Peter and reboot the franchise.
