Spider-Man 2 had stunning visual effects as well as being a kick ass movie all on its own. Definitely one of the best CBMs of all time. ASM is looking great too! Both are great depictions of Spidey in my book

Thanks for the extra look into the CG man. From the shots you show, The Amazing Spider-Man owns them all except for the comparison between Venom and Lizard. Doc Ocks tentacles were good, but still. The best CGI came from Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man despite Spider-Man 2 being the best Spidey movie and one of the best CBM's.

It's pretty unfair to compare a 2012 movie against 2007, 2004 and 2002 movies. Of course TASM effects are better, but nothing amazing.

The CGI in the Raimi films was brilliant. The scene in SM2 where Doc Ock sinks into the river was a CGIed rendering of Alfred Molina and it was executed brilliantly IMO as was the sequence on the train.

Nice article.

@imsuperman not to sound like a dick, but amazing sm might have more cgi than any of raimis three, sure there were a lot of practical shots but the lizard is complete cgi along with a lot of swinging and backgrounds

I like the practical effects. There was a part of me that wished Hulk would have been non-CGI, as in Dr. Jekyll from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

(wish I could find better picture)

All technology advances (and fast), to compare the two is just unfair. Post and article about Tron and Tron Legacy.

The Raimi trilogy had some pretty bad CGI scenes. I always think of the scene where Spider-Man lifts his arm to shoot web and immediately gets pulled towards the screen in a static pose. Looks so bad.

I believe Raimi had some practical scenes too, I remember a scene where Spider-Man moves really weird and gets pulled up in the air ("started to swing"). I wish they would've done these scenes better.
