Conceptual illustrator, Robert Simons ("The Thing"), has given us the first look at early Rhino concept designs for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He sketched out various designs, that included four-legged and two-legged designs, as well as various helmet designs. The final look of Rhino is a combination of the various designs that you will see below. You can view more of Robert's artwork at his official website, robertdraws.com.

I also encourage you to check out the teaser trailer for Momentum (view below), which is another project that Robert Simons is working on. Momentum is a short film that was successfully funded by a Kickstarter campaign. It is currently in post-production. Robert Simons and his partner Peggy Chung at Gadget-Bot, along with Mark Yang developed a hover racing film set in the future. To round out their team they brought in Michael Chance to direct and Anna Halberg to develop the production team. For more information visit MOMENTUMRALLY.com.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

Some of these designs look like something out of Iron Man and Transformers.

Awesome, awesome find nail!

But honestly, there's just no way to make a mechanized Rhino suit look cool or even good. It didn't help that the trailers gave away all of Rhino's scenes...even the ending shot of the entire freaking movie! Sony did the same thing with the first one...they have no idea how to market a movie.

Rhino's design used in the movie was crap!

the whole problem with the design is that they tried to make him look like an actual rhino with 4 legs.

I hope if they bring him back for ASM3 they change it up a bit. I mean the one they chose looks like a prototype doesn't it?

Some of these are at least an improvement... I just don't get why they felt they had to go the "mech" route. They have a dude shooting electricity from his body and two dudes with a goblin disease. Why the felt a dude with super human strength would not work is beyond me. I was happy this movie was introducing us to some villains we have not seen before, but the finished products made me wish that hadn't.

They finally figured out people wanted a version of Spider-Man as close to the comics as possible. I just don't know why they didn't have that same understanding when making the villains.

Looks like they never did have the right design in mind at any point...

Funny how when you're afraid to admit you don't like a design, you can just say "oh I'm sure it'll evolve later on" and get away with it.

OMG almost any of these designs look infinitely better than what they went with for Rhino! What the hell are they thinking when it comes to the villain designs? They finally got Spider-man's costume near perfect and dropped the ball on absolutely everything else it seems.

Why the [frick] does he need to transform into an actual rhino? lol this is what happens when people take thing so literally.

Alternate designs, why not have him just in a suit and have him plow through things like Blonsky or Igor /Mark 38?

You have the fancy Vulture wings which make sense for flight, the Ock tentacles which make sense for increased dexterity then you have that crappy Rhino suit which looks like it was made in a cave by Justin Hammer.

All this dumb suff, Stan and the boys knew what they were doing back in the day. There's no need to not make Peter a wrestler or turn Rhino into War Machine.
