SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Star Jake Gyllenhaal Set To Star In OBLIVION SONG Film Adaptation

While his status for Spider-Man: No Way Home remains uncertain, it appears as though Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From HomeNightcrawler; Prisoners) has found his next project. It's being reported that the actor signed on to star in and produce Oblivion Song, a live-action film adaptation of the Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici graphic novel of the same name.

The Image Comics series tells the story of Nathan Cole, a man who makes daily trips to try and rescue those still living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion—a part of Philadelphia lost a decade ago, along with 300,000 of its citizens.

In a statement, his Nine Stories co-producer Riva Marker said, “We’re thrilled to partner with New Republic and Skybound on Robert Kirkman’s mind-blowingly captivating series. When faced with a cataclysmic event that permanently alters our lives, what would we choose to save? Just as Kirkman did with The Walking Dead and Invincible, in Oblivion Song, he’s created the potential for a franchise that is profoundly entertaining, and the perfect opportunity to explore big questions we’re reckoning with globally.”

Gyllenhaal has been a busy man this year and is next set to appear in Antoine Fuqua's The Guilty, which will have a limited release on September 24 before launching on Netflix on October 1. He also recently wrapped Michael Bay's Ambulance, which is slated to open in theaters on February 18, 2022 and boasts a supporting cast including Yahya Abdul-Mateen (Watchmen; Aquaman) and Eiza González (Baby Driver; Bloodshot).

I'm not familiar with the source material, but since it's a Robert Kirkman Image comic, I imagine it's a singular story, unlike mainstream comics that have multiple iterations. And in that case I ask, why does Holywood insist on turning serialized stories into movies instead of TV shows? Can't you see how hard it is to make it work?

Just started this series a few months ago. It's pretty good. Gyllenhaal will be great in the role

Jake is arguably the best actor Alive but he doesn't act like a snub and does all kinds of movies which is dope. I'll give this a watch whenever it comes out

Anything with Jake in it, I am all in.

Just rewatched Nightcrawler for like the 5th time a couple of weeks ago and that movie was incredible and his performance was sooooooooooo good.

Oblivion Song is great. Jake Gyllenhaal is great. Looks like it's a win-win.
