SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Had A Post-Credits Scene With The Spot "Demolishing" Other Villains

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse did not feature a post-credits scene, but it's now come to light that the animated sequel did originally include a sequence with the Spot and a bunch of other villains.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse did not include any post-credits scenes (which was somewhat surprising after the first film), but it turns out Sony Pictures' animated sequel did originally feature a stinger until the decision was made to leave it out of the theatrical cut of the movie.

While speaking to Indiewire, producer Phil Lord explained that the scene was going to be set up by an earlier sequence with the villainous Spot trying to order a drink in a bar with several other Spider-Man baddies (he doesn't reveal which ones). The still inept Spot is unable to do so because nobody knows him, and leaves after being ridiculed.

“And then he finally steals the drink for himself and he pours it down and it all leaks out of his holes,” Lord said. “He’s the dorkiest villain. A great line that Chris wrote, though: ‘Trying to fill a hole in his heart with more holes.’ Not a great method.”

In the post-credits scene, Spot returns to the bar after gaining much more powerful abilities and confidence from the super-collider, and "dispatches" all of the other villains.

“That was one of my favorite things, seeing this guy get picked on and then come back and, with just a whisper, demolishes every person that comes at him,” adds Alan Hawkins, returning head of character animation. “But you have to have both of those sequences for that to work.”

Apparently, the animation for these scenes was never completed, so we probably won't get to see them on the eventual Blu-ray release. It's a shame they weren't kept in the movie, but since it doesn't sound like either sequence really furthered the main story, it's easy enough to understand why they were cut.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The confirmed voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Man, I thought for sure morlun would have to be introduced for this, since they already did the sinister six previously and what else can you really do for a multiverse threat.

But the spot is such a perfect choice. And I love how he starts off (and was advertised as) the villain miles beats just at the beginning, but then becomes this multiversal threat. It's so perfect I'm surprised none of the other spiderverse stories before this thought of doing this.

@Origame - I thought splitting up the Spot showdown across two movies was more a result of corporate greed than natural storytelling rhythm, they could've easily wrapped up the Spot storyline in this movie. But they're obviously going to keep making Spider-Verse movies after the 3rd one, so they can do Morlun and the Inheritors for the inevitable 4th movie.

@soberchimera - They had a LOT to cram into this movie. I don't think it would of been a smart move to tack on the final showdown on top of everything else. Also it looks like The Spot is slowly becoming a variation of Morlun. "IF" he eventually turns his sights on the spiderverse. So bringing him in as the next big baddie seems like a hat on a hat at this point. Which I'm not mad about. Morlun DESPERATELY needed a new coat of paint to make him less "Interview with a Vampire" and more the eldritch horror he truly is.

@MisterKite - The scenes with his parents, the Gwen scenes, and the 10 different endings this movie had were definitely overlong, this movie could've easily been a half-hour shorter in which case they could've used that time to resolve the Spot storyline.

@soberchimera - The Gwen scenes, in my opinion, were crucial to the development of the character. Which in turn strengthened her connection to Miles and his particular dilemma. This was as much her movie as it was Miles. However, they could of definitely cut down on the amount of guest appearances we had. I love a good easter egg, but damn. Regardless, I appreciate that we took time to explore these characters. So overall I say it was worth breaking it up into two parts.

@MisterKite - Yeah, I think it would've been better to save those scenes for a Spider-Gwen spinoff, this is supposed to be Miles' movie after all. Just some nitpicks I have though, still enjoyed the movie overall.

Certainly didn't have The Spot played by Jason Schwartzman on my bingo card for main villain across a film series, but I thought it worked really well.

@Itwasme - I've always loved Jason Schwartzman as a voice actor, but I'm especially happy to see him playing against his character type. He's still classic Schwartzman, but he pairs so well with Miles' vibrant personality. In a way, echoing Peter and Norman.
