LOKI Director Kate Herron Reveals Hope To Direct A SPIDER-MAN Movie Starring Tom Holland For Marvel Studios

The first episode of Loki has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response, and with Spider-Man director Jon Watts moving on to Fantastic Four, it seems Kate Herron has her eyes on the wall-crawler.

Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to be a game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while it's still early days for Loki, it seems the Disney+ series will lay the groundwork for the web-slinger's trip through the Multiverse. Filmmaker Kate Herron is directing all six episodes of the God of Mischief's show, but it sounds like she has wider ambitions in this shared world.

Talking to The Playlist, Herron explained that after bringing Loki to the small screen, she'd love to take a shot at exploring the web-slinger's world. "I’m a massive Spider-Man fan. That would be a dream of mine. I think Tom Holland is fantastic and I’ve really been enjoying his version of the character."

Jon Watts, who has directed the Spider-Man trilogy for Marvel Studios, is moving on to Fantastic Four after No Way Home, so there would certainly be room for Herron to take charge of the franchise.

Herron would be a great fit for Spider-Man (especially if the plan is for Peter Parker to continue teaming up with alternate versions of himself).

In the same interview, she elaborated on the movies that inspired her while working on Loki, and it's no wonder the show feels so different and unique compared to what else we've seen in the MCU. "I wanted the whole show to be this love letter to sci-fi, so I stole from multiple sci-fi films [Laughs]. ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Metropolis,’ the book [version of] ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ for the fish out of water aspect. The font on the computers is sort of inspired by the font used in ‘Alien.’ The time doors in the show are from ‘Dune.’ There were lots of stuff we were kind of referencing."

Time will tell what the future holds in store for Herron, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already enlisted Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron for his Star Wars movie, so perhaps she'll get her shot at Spidey!

actresses we think could play Black Cat in the SPUMC!

5. Alexandra Daddario

Us-Again-the-new-theatrical-short-from-Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios-follows-one-magical-night-in-th

Alexandra Daddario has a long list of credits to her name, but the fact that the True Detective and Baywatch star has yet to appear in a major superhero franchise is definitely a surprise.

When it comes to a character like Black Cat, casting Daddario would certainly make fans happy. Why? Well, the actress looks like she's been pulled straight out of the pages of the comic books for starters, and she has enough action movie credentials for us to be confident in her abilities.

While we're not anticipating (or hoping) for an overly sexualised version of Felicia Hardy, the character's seductive nature has played into many of her best stories. That's something Daddario definitely exudes, and given what a talent she is, the actress is worthy of a place on this list.

We just need to hope Sony Pictures doesn't overlook her!

4. Lana Condor

Us-Again-the-new-theatrical-short-from-Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios-follows-one-magical-night-in-th

Lana Condor has come a long way from being underutilized as Jubilee in Fox's X-Men movies, and has received widespread acclaim for her work in To All the Boys. She's also impressed in the likes of Deadly Class and Alita: Battle Angel, so we'd love to see Condor get a shot at a role like Black Cat.

It sounds like this movie will serve as an origin story for Felicia Hardy (which definitely makes the most sense), so casting a younger actress like Condor could be key to making sure that works.

There's definitely something to be said for utilising a slightly more experienced Black Cat on screen, but following Felicia from being her father's partner right up until she's a master thief in her own right would be a total blast, and a story we think Condor could end up doing justice.

She's a real talent and deserves the opportunity to showcase that in a major franchise.

3. Emma Watson

Us-Again-the-new-theatrical-short-from-Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios-follows-one-magical-night-in-th

Since concluding work on the Harry Potter franchise, Emma Watson has chosen her projects carefully, and that's benefitted her career massively (especially compared to Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint).

Choosing to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast proves that she's not against the idea of starring in another big franchise, but could the English actress be tempted to take a crack at a superhero role?

Watson spends a good chunk of her time advocating for the rights of women. So, providing the script is powerful enough and takes Black Cat on a thoughtful, impactful journey, then we see no reason why she wouldn't at least consider breathing life into a character who could easily serve as a role model to young girls.

Unfortunately, we're not wholly convinced that Sony Pictures is the right studio to make that happen!

2. Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Us-Again-the-new-theatrical-short-from-Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios-follows-one-magical-night-in-th

Gugu Mbatha-Raw has delivered superb performances in everything from A Wrinkle in Time to The Morning Show and Loki (trust us when we say she's great as Judge Renslayer).

Despite that, it feels like this is an actress still waiting on that one huge role that promises to put her on the map in a big way. Well, that could be where Black Cat comes in, and we'd love to see her given the opportunity to bring a fresh and diverse new take on Felicia Hardy to the "SPUMC."

That's exciting on a number of levels, but Mbatha-Raw is a legit talent who could add some gravitas to what we see from this Spider-Man supporting player.

Say what you will about Sony Pictures, but they've cast these "spinoff" movies well, and we're pretty sure that this is someone who could effortlessly hold their own alongside the likes to Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

1. Felicity Jones

Us-Again-the-new-theatrical-short-from-Walt-Disney-Animation-Studios-follows-one-magical-night-in-th

Sometimes, the most obvious suggestion is the best one, and that's definitely the case with Felicity Jones.

When the actress was cast as "Felicia" in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, she was still a relative unknown, and it's unclear whether Sony Pictures ever planned to make her more than just an Easter Egg. Regardless, there have already been rumblings that she might be wanted to play a different version of the same character, and that makes perfect sense.

As well as holding her own in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jones is also an Academy Award nominee, and you just know she could elevate this material and make it something really special.

Jones was always a great pick for Black Cat, and Sony Pictures now has the chance to give her another shot that would see the actress do this hero justice on screen.

For the (inevitable) next trilogy I hope they bring in someone new. Both in the directing and in the writing department. I liked the direction of Loki, and I think it could fit Spider-Man. So sure, why not

@bkmeijer - I wish we had more of the D.B. Cooper scene. That was good.

@SensitivityII - I think that whole scene (including the editing) was fun. Hope we get more of that

Kudos to Josh for not just posting photos of women with big tits in bikinis for his fan casts.

Wilding trying to get away with not overtly sexualising an actress for a part but still doing it anyway.

@DarkDetective - I’m not sensitive about it. He knows his way too public horniness gets clicks. I don’t mind. I’m just giving kudos that he’s not doing that this time.

@GwenLantern - I mean, what villains are left at this point that Sony doesn't want to make a solo film out of? Jackal?

@soberchimera - Yeah, they are becoming detrimental to the main franchise at this point. Kraven would have been a perfect villain for Spidey 3, but now... well unless he's part of a multiversal Sinister Six, I guess he's off the table now.

I don't know if they have said it before but how much creative control does Marvel have over Spiderman movies in the MCU? Is it 100% or does Sony have a good amount of power in that regard too?

@ROFERG - https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/spider-man-homecoming-sony-marvel-control/ ,"But according to Feige, the two studios created a good partnership - one that ultimately gave Marvel Studios a large amount of creative control on Homecoming. During a recent interview with THR, Feige explained how the overall creative negotiation of the film came about.

"It really came down to me telling Amy [Pascal] in her office that I think the best thing for this character is: Sony has the rights, that's not changing." Feige revealed. "Have Sony pay for the movie, distribute the movie, market the movie. Just let us make the movie and incorporate him into our universe."

Would certainly be more unique than Watts' paint-by-the-numbers style. Don't get me wrong, I do really love those movies, but, like most MCU fare, the style is very generic. Thankfully, the D+ shows and Eternals seem to be shaking that up.

I'm dreading Watts working on the F4 though.
