Marvel E-I-C Axel Alonso Answers "Do You See The ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Making It To The Big Screen?"

By Ultimate Spider-Man, they mean Miles Morales, plus who Alonso pictures in his head to play the new Spider-Man.

Speaking to Fox-Latino, Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso shared the following when discussing Marvel's decision making surrounding the new bi-racial Ultimate Spider-Man.

Question: Four months and five issues later, how has the new Spider-Man been received?

ALONSO: "People have clearly embraced Miles the way they embraced Peter Parker. They are getting the point and they are getting him, so far so good."

Question: I’m sure there were many who did not think the change was so nice.

ALONSO: "Whenever you do anything in comics you are going to hear from the fans because they are passionate, no matter what it is, but add a social or political context to what you do and you are going to hear it even more. We heard some negative and some positive but ultimately people vote with their wallet. We have not seen a lack of interest in the book. It is the flagship of the Ultimate line and sales are good."

Question: Any chance we can see Miles and Peter defy the space time continuum and become acquainted?

ALONSO: "In comics anything is possible, but we cross that line carefully. When you do that it has a significance. It’s like Pandora’s box, once you open it, it raises all sorts of questions. But yes, the idea of Miles meeting Peter Parker and crossing paths is very, very interesting."

Question: What about the silver screen? Do you see the Ultimate Spider-Man making it to the big screen?

ALONSO: "While I have no idea what the plans are in Hollywood, we [in the office] joke around that Jaden Smith is out there somewhere doing crunches, getting ready for the moment that somebody decides they want to do this. Bottom line, not many people would have believed that Marvel would have done something like this 10 years ago so who knows what can find its way to the silver screen four five years from now."

His race is irrelevant to me. I for one just wouldn't go and see a Spider-Man movie without Peter Parker.

Unfortunately, you're probably right...that's the price that comes with being a fanboy I guess, lol. I just hope to God it never happens. I think it's great that Marvel has a bi-racial character like Miles in such a prominent comic book, but there's no way someone Bendis created because he'd run out of ideas with the Ultimate Peter Parker tops the real deal. :P

Peter will inevitably return. Hopefully Miles becomes Spider-Boy or some such.

However, I thought Jaden Smith was fantastic in Karate Kid and if they ever DID go down this route then I could probably get on board with him playing this version of Spidey. Regardless, I still don't want it to ever happen!

If there was that much crying and pissing over the comic, it's a sure bet people aren't ready for a movie. Besides, we already have this reboot on the heels of an existing trilogy to flesh out.

But if Jaden was Miles, I could dig it. Sick ass costume too.

Not a racist or what, but a Spider-Man movie without Peter Parker just doesn't sound that right indeed...also, I think general audiences will go "WTF!?" if such route is taken, and some other reasons. Miles works on the comics, but I can't see him fitting a movie just yet.

Just a tactic to get people to go out an try reading the comic as it is now. The people that have "embraced Miles" are the comic fans who have chosen to read this Ultimate Spidey. Mainstream public embracing a new concept for Spidey in a film is a whole different story. I do have to agree that Jaden would be perfect for the role though. Doubt we will ever see that happen though.

Fox owns the rights to Spidey/Peter Parker, but could Marvel get away with their own take using Miles? Do Fox own the rights to him too?

When I Talked To My Folks + Friends B-Day Gathering, A Few Months Ago, I Said That This Was A Stupid Idea For This New Spider-Man. They Said Why? I Replied; There Is Nothing About A Teen Age Kid; That Would Interest Me Or Other People. My Nephew Is 15 yrs. old. And There Isn't Much That He Could Teach Me. Perhaps Tips, etc...In Playing Video Games. Other Than That He's Boring. His Sister Is 11yrs. old And Again She Can't Teach Me Anything About Life's Lessons In Anything Thing. The New U.S.M. Hasn't Lived Life Like Parker Has. I'd Believe In Park First, Then I Wouldn't Believe U.S.M.! Spidey Has Both The Experiences,And The Knowledge, and His Age Too!!!!

@Grif

LMAO That comment made my day! XD

MARVEL needs to bring Peter Parker back into The Ultimate Universe. If not as a mentor for Miles, than maybe an alternate universe version of Peter Parker as a Villain? One that embraced the symbiote, or carnage symbiote?

I always figured Peter Parker/Spiderman would be one HELL of a formidable Foe to the Marvel Universe, if he ever went to the darkside. :)

GREAT IDEA! I would love to see Jaden Smith playing Miles in that cool new ultimate-costume. They could make whole new spiderman movie without rebooting, think about it, two completley different spiderman movie-series at the same time! AWESOME!!

What is the issue with Jaden Smith? The kid is a solid actor and extremely athletic. Not saying I would ever like to see this come to fruition, but he would be perfect for the part 4 or 5 years down the road IF they did go that direction, which I hope never happens.

Jaden Smith is a horrible actor, so that's the first problem. also, why would they do a Spider-Man movie when the new one comes out in a few months and they've already got the sequel planned! and three, non-nerd audiences will be VERY confused. what would his origin story be? I hope this bad idea never sees the light of day.

I agree with Josh, Peter Parker has and ALWAYS WILL BE the flagship of Marvel. This was all done for sales. And partially because they wanted to make a social and political statement, but majorly for sales and nothing but.

I'm sorry but if they wanted to introduce a black Spider-Man into the Marvel Universe they could've done it without resorting to killing Peter Parker off. They should at least pull a Batman and bring Parker back and have him retake up his mantle as the one and only Spider-Man. [frick] this Miles Morales kid!

Of course it was done for sales, its the comic book business, your goal has to be good stories that will drive profit. And stories like this that challenge social change and make all the closed minded individuals go into a frenzy are the best one.

I myself am a die hard Peter Parker fan, and I was standoffish when I heard that Peter would be getting the axe. But when I picked up the 1st issues and ready it, actually read it. It was a good story, it was a nice and fresh take on Spider-man that could open the doors for interesting story.

With the right writers and directory, this movie could be a really great hit and addition into spider mans history. Jaden Smith KILLED the Karate kid! He is an amazing young actor, and I wouldn't mind see him shine in a role like this.

This industry is about change,
1: they are fictional characters,
2: Reading the same damn stories over and over is just redundant.
3: change sparks creativity and inspiration,
4: It's good to have fresh ideas, new twist, new characters, for our generation but more importantly for the next. Intergrading what now effects us as a culture to move forward as a people.

Also by stating "not a racial thing" you make it sound like a racial thing. Because that is the first idea you implant on your readers. But for all over you who think that this would be a bad idea. Jump back to when you were 12-14 reading spiderman comics. Did you not day dream of how it would feel to be the Amazing Spider-Man? Did his struggles, battles and lessons not stick with you?

Would you not want to pass that feeling on to another generation who has very few heroes that resemble themselves?

It seem to me that many are only thinking of themselves, and not the positive impact, and they may new creative possibility that stories like this could have.

It can't be any worse than Spider-man 3, and with Will Smith backing up his son, Im all on board.
