The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field; the film swings into theatres July 3rd.

First! Haha. Looks cool, though. Can't wait for the movie and the game. Though I hear that Andrew Garfield will not be reprising the role, but rather our hero will be voiced by Josh Keaton.

I just don't like him, even the way he moves in the costume bothers me. But I accept that this is a set of Spiderman movies for a new generation. They wanted that particular look to appeal to a particular crowd. And it'll probably be successful. Maybe I'll be wrong and it'll actually be good. Who knows?

Garfield if only you were 5 years younger, you could actually look like a teenager in the next films for a little while longer. You will be 30 when the sequel comes out. A 30 year old playing a 18-20 year old is not... just mehh

I wishb garfield had just a tiny bit more muscle not too much where he looks buff but where he's the right ammount of skinny and lean. Honestly even though Tobey wasn't the best spidey my favorite part of the trilogy was in spidey 2 when he held that train and his muscle mass in his arm expanded so that he could slow the train down. I mean if garfield could do that as a skinny guy it would make all the more difference in this reboot and im sure as hell it would look bad ass.

That's one of my challenges with it currently is he does not look like a teenager. He should be 16 in this film and looks nothing like a high schooler. They are casting a bunch of mid-upper 20's high schoolers to make him look in place, so it will be a high school full of a bunch of "held-back" students. :-P

He will be 29 in August, so more around 31 when the sequel is released and after the next one it will be time to reboot again. Had they cast someone around 20, they could take this franchise into 6 films where we could see some of Spidey's cool villains come to fruition. Now we will get a small taste once again and have to start things over again before you can develop the whole rogue gallery, unless they just recast and continue forward...which they should have done this time around given casting an older person for the part.

they went with a older guy who could act instead of some young pretty-boy actor who can barely remember his lines

You guys must not understand Hollywood. If you look at all but a few Actors who play High School students, they are all pretty much over the age of 25. Personally I think Garfield looks the right age to play a high school student. As far as you guys complaining about there not being enough shots with the mask on, they are showcasing the actor playing Spider-Man. You people find absolutely anything to complain about, its pathetic. You should turn off your bigot switch.

" You should turn off your bigot switch."

Bigot switch? What does a not wearing a mask and casting an older actor have to do with bigotry?

And just because Hollywood chooses to cast older people to play high schoolers doesn't make it right. You missed the point that it shortens the length of time that Garfield will be able to return in future films. He does not look near high school age to me, but to each their own.

There have been, at least, 3-4 scenes shown in the trailer where Parker is doing his Spidey thing and doesn't have his mask on. THAT is what the mask issue is. Of course, they want to promote the actor under the mask in photos. The combination of the suit and no mask does make his neck even longer than it is, so not sure how well that is making their star look.

He's supposed to look 17 for The Amazing Spider-Man and I think he's as much of an inspired casting than Hugh Jackman for Wolverine or Christian Bale for Batman. Everything I have seen from the trailers makes me think he's knocking this out of the park, regardless what certain people that also dismissed The Avengers are trying to make look like.

@Durf6199

You're fooling yourself if you don't think that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone aren't bigger draws to sell tickets than anyone from that film. You are talking about two of the most talented and hot actors out there, sir. Look how much of a draw Bale or Brady are with their other films.

The Amazing Spider-Man will be a huge blockbuster, you like it or not. All this has to have is good reviews and WOM, and regardless of your poor attempts to dismiss this, it's Spider-Man, and just like The Avengers before him, he can take these coward attacks and come out swinging.

You're just a nit picky whinner.
You're one of those type of people who looks to criticize anything, because it's never good enough for you. If Peter looked nerdier, you'd probably say "Oh, nice job Hollywood, you've turned Peter into a stereotypical nerd".
Peter is NOT an ugly guy. Do you not remember every time Mary Jane or Gwen would call him handsome? They didn't call him that just because he jerked it a lot. Seriously, the hate this movie is getting so repetitive. Just admit it, you're angry that it's a reboot. That's why so many people complain about it. Because it's a reboot. That's why they always look for flaws. You know what kind of flaws Sam Raimi's movies had? In the first movie Robbie Robinson mentioned Eddie Brock in the first scene at the Daily Bugle, even though Eddie didn't even show up 'til the 3rd movie. Watch it he says "Eddie's been on it for weeks! We can barley get a glimpse of him!". It may seem minimal, but thats only when you dont think about it. That shows the lack of attention in the movie. I could criticize those movies all day. So stop trying to looking for anything to cpmplain about. Goomba Lizard, it's not funny or clever, it's just annoying, childish and cheap. Spidey's costume, you can still clearly tell it's Spider-Man, so what's the big deal? Bane looks a lot less like Bane than in the comics, yet no one seems to have a problem with that, because so many people are so biased towards TDKR. Andrew's hair, look at any comic picture of Peter Parker and he has a similar hairstyle, spiked up and a little messy. Adding stuff to the origin, did Nolan not change and add stuff to Batman's origin? So why can't Webb add stuff to it? Or is it just a double standard? Seriously, there's so much biasness here.

Backhanded remarks for people that keep coming back day after day to hate on this remembers me a lot what happened with The Avengers. Some people have their own agenda against this and are not realizing this movie is getting buzz and momentum fast as hell after The Avengers. This from the trailers alone looks better than anything that came before. The Amazing Spider-Man will rule the box office this July. And you wanna know why? People are clever enough to read into your crap. They don't care how much people complain about The Avengers and they sure as hell love Spider-Man. Your crusade against this will be worthless. Just like the one before that was worthless too. ;)

There's a certain crippled that isn't looking so sure box office wise as it looked before. Butthurt much? ;)

Nolanites are quite worse. Instead of worrying with their own film, they keep getting called out for creating fake Facebook accounts to bad mouth this, and regardless of them saying that The Amazing Spider-Man sucks, it has almost two times the same number of Facebook fans than batfag.

Right now, on RT, TASM has 216163 WTS so far:
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_amazing_spider_man/

While TDKR has 224840 WTS so far:
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_dark_knight_rises/

The difference of anticipation is not nearly that different than people think, and while TDKR does have a more rabid fanbase, the General Audience loves Spider-Man. Just throwing some facts here, there are factors playing in TASM's favor that people aren't even considering yet - or at least trying to ignore: we are talking about the first real blockbuster filmed completely with 3D technology since Avatar, using tech actually better than on that movie. I've seen the 3D 4 minutes preview on theater and holy hell it looks insane. This will be considered a 3D IMAX must see not only from fans, but from people wanting to see a spectacle just like they did for Avatar. If the trend and the momentum this film is getting is followed by good reviews and WOM, we are talking INSANE numbers here, remembering if TA is huge OS, TASM can be huger with the right WOM. Regardless of people dissing this film, it's more popular than people actually want to believe, for a reason or another.

"Oh yeah, TASM needs to pander to the Twilight crowd by showing the pretty boy."
Oh, well would you look at THAT?
And I'm being a Webbite? Because I'm defending a movie that has the potential to be good against such pathetic hate?
Jesus, why is it that the people who complain and criticize this movie believe they're the only ones with the "intelligent" and "well though out" comments?

Andrew Garfield is the most inspired casting for a comic book character I've seen in a long time. He has shown nothing but LOVE and RESPECT for the Spider-Man mythos. He's not only a skillful actor with a shitload of awards and just nominated for a Tony, the Oscar when it comes to theaters. He is a Spider-Man FAN. He's a geek, like all of us, and most of all, he is a hardcore comic book fan, that's why when I see him playing Peter Parker or Spider-Man in the trailers it looks so real, that's why I'm so confident with this reboot.

There's respect and love behind this project, ladies and lads. And that's something that money can't buy.

This film is a must see in 3D. I don't really care how 2D purists feel.

A movie made in 3D is clearly intended to be seen in 3D. It can be the best Spider-Man film or even the best comic book movie of the year, but for truly judge it I"ll see it how it was intended. Avatar isn't the same without the 3D, TASM clearly looks bad ass with or without it, but I'm getting the experience how it was designed to be.

I'm an idiot? You're the one who said it. You said you never made a comment about Andrew Garfield and his looks, when in fact you did. You said he was a pretty boy that appeals to the Twilight crowd, which means you think he looks like the guy from Twilight.
You're completely contradicting yourself and saying you didn't say what you did in fact say.
The comment is right there. You're implying that Andrew Garfield was hired because of his looks. Stop trying to act like I read it wrong. It was clearly stated. I am not a Webbite. I am a Spider-Man fan, I've never even seen 500 Days of Summer. It's so stupid that people complain about Andrew Garfield's looks when he LOOKS like Peter Parker from the comics.
Of course, I could post dozens of pictures of comic Peter Parker, and people would just come up with more excuses as to why Garfield shouldn't be playing him, or isn't the right guy to play him. If you're going to constantly complain about him, then who do YOU think would be better? Would you have rather it be Josh Hutcherson? Because he was considered for the part for awhile. At least Garfield is an acclaimed actor who won as BAFTA for acting and is nominated for a Tony for best actor, and was nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actor in The Social Network. I swear, this movie could have matched as close as possible to the comics, but then people would say things like the director wasn't very original, or he should have done something etc.

Yeah, I'm expecting the 3D for this to be bananas. Number one selling point for me.
