Edgar Wright as The Director
Wright is known for his strange signature style of filmmaking. Being able to balance comedy while never losing the true underlying message of the film, Wright would be the perfect director for a Spidey film with his eye for great visuals and great relationships with his cast. Let's not forget Wright also has experience with CBM's, directing arguably the best and most accurate comic book film to date with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
Note: Ben Parker and Gwen Stacy were not cast due to their deaths already happening in my world.
Nat Wolff as Peter Parker/Spiderman
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, which he could have prevented, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became the Amazing Spider-Man!
Reason for Casting: Wolff received acclaim for his character of Isaac, the blind best friend of one of our main characters. Wolff, being merely twenty years old could definitely portray the wall-crawler at any age, whether it be still in high school or already a graduate and swinging the city of New York collecting pictures of Spiderman for his angry boss.
Emma Thompson as May Parker/Aunt May
Aunt May is the mother figure and aunt-by-marriage to Peter Parker (Spider-man), although it was only recently that she discovered her nephew's secret. She's one of the most important people in Pete's life and we've already seen that he will do everything for her.
Reason for Casting: For years upon years we've seen Emma's talent as an actress in films such as Henry V, Sense and Sensibility and The Remains of the Day. Thompson is simply an amazing pick to play Peter's anchor on the human world and truly the only family he has left.
Anton Yelchin as Harry Osborn/Hobgoblin
Harry Osborn is the best friend of Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man. His father is Norman Osborn, a global industrialist and billionaire.Harry eventually becomes the Ultimate universes version of the Hobgoblin this is due to his exposure to the OZ formula during the initial Oscorp explosion.
Reason for Casting: Yelchin is a great up-and-coming actor that has already appeared in big name franchises such as Star Trek. Yelchin has good roles outside the Enterprise as well with parts in Only Lovers Left Alive and From Up on Poppy Hill. Yelchin would be an excellent Harry and for this universe I think dabbling in the Ultimate universe would be really cool.
Saoirse Ronan as Mary Jane Watson
Mary Jane Watson is the major love interest of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. She married him but didn't(!), now she's one of the few people who know who he is, and still supports him as his closest friend and confidante. By this point in the universe Peter has already ended his one-time relationship with Mary Jane and is focusing more on helping NYC.
Reason for Casting: Ronan is one of the best and most known up and coming actresses and her roles in movies has proven to me she could play a very good MJ, being one of the few people that support Peter and his crime fighting ways.
Robert Carlyle as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin
Norman Osborn was the son of the wealthy business man Amberson Osborn. He had a decent childhood until Amberson lost most of the family fortune after the failure of his invention company, which had Amberson becoming alcoholic and violent. Norman terrorized New York City as both a businessman and as the villainous Green Goblin, who was responsible for the death of Gwen Stacy and the transformation of his own son into Hobgoblin.
Reason for Casting: Carlyle is considered one of the best villain actors to ever grace the big screen so there's no reason to see why he couldn't portray Spidey's trademark nemesis. Carlyle could portray the OZ formula maddened Norman or simply do what fans have been craving and revert back to the masked Goblin from the earlier comics.
Sofia Boutella as Felicia Hardy/Black Cat
Former cat burglar Felicia Hardy became a crime fighter when she became romantically attracted to and involved with Spider-Man. Felicia has the ability to instill "bad luck" around others - this comes in handy when fighting crime!
Reason for Casting: Boutella had many moviegoers on the edge of their seats with her impressive turn as Gazelle in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman:The Secret Service. Her athleticism and charm leads me to believe she could portray an excellent Black Cat, who by this point would be the object of Parker's affection despite not knowing her true identity.
Max Thieriot as Eddie Brock/Venom
Eddie Brock bonded to the alien symbiote after it was discarded by Spider-Man, becoming the first Venom. Brock was later Anti-Venom, but the symbiote was lost during Spider-Island. He has recently been forcibly bonded to the Toxin symbiote by the Crime Master. Brock is compulsive liar with a hero complex which leads him to butt heads with co-worker Peter Parker and later Spiderman.
Reason for Casting: Max has been really impressive to me in some terrible films such as Jumper and The House at the End of the Street. He really impresses as the brother of Highmore's Norman Bates on Bates Motel, portraying an attitude similar to what is needed for the Eddie Brock character.
Nathan Fillion as Doctor Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus
A former nuclear physicist and atomic researcher, Otto Octavius' life changed forever when one of his experiments went horribly wrong. From that day forward, he has set out to prove his superior intellect in a number of ways, but these plans are usually thwarted by Spider-Man.
Reason for Casting: An actor we've seen in many heroic roles and an actor many want in a big name franchise, I think Spiderman could be Fillion's chance due to us not really seeing Fillion take a villainous turn in a film and him being the leading man and the one who brings the Sinister Six together. Fillion could also make the somewhat father-son relationship between Peter and Otto become more rich and fleshed out than the other films.
Nick Frost as Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino
Brawn over brains. The Rhino is an adversary of the amazing Spider-Man and incredible Hulk. His suit grants him immense endurance and strength. He recently returned to a life of crime following an all too brief retirement.
Reason for Casting: Rhino has yet to work in live-action and I think it's really due to the director not taking the correct approach to the character. Webb went too mech with suit and it ended up looking like a giant Transformer on screen. With Wright, I think he would either stay true to the comics with the original Rhino so it would look natural or go with the Ultimate Version and recruit his buddy and frequent collaborator Nick Frost to play the character out of the suit and possibly provide the voice assuming Frost can do some voice work and motion capture.
Zach Galifinakis as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard
During an experiment Dr. Curtis Connors accidentally turned into a ferocious reptilian monster who seeks to turn humans into lizards like himself. The Lizard is one of Spider-Man’s oldest and deadliest foes while ironically, his alter ego is a close friend and former teacher of Spidey’s alter ego Peter Parker.
Reason for Casting: Zach has proven he can be much more than a funny man, as second only to Bradley Cooper, has found d much success after the Hangover trilogy. This ability is why he would make the perfect Jekyll/Hyde complex with Curt Connors, a mentor to Peter Parker.
Stanley Tucci as Adrian Toomes/Vulture
Swindled by his business partner out of his equal share of the profits from their company, Adrian Toomes set out for revenge by using a flying harness of his own design. He has however, met defeat several times at the hands of his arch-nemesis, The Amazing Spider-Man.
Reason for Casting: Unlike Fillion, Tucci is no stranger to big name franchises. This has been both a good and bad thing for the Big Night actor, as he's appeared in critically acclaimed works such as Catching Fire yet also made appearances in Transformers 4. This'll never take away from Tucci's talent though and he would make the perfect Vulture should they ever decide to bring the character to live-action.
Rob Kazinsky as Cletus Kasady/Carnage
Carnage is the offspring of the alien symbiote Venom. It bonded with the crazed serial killer, Cletus Kasady, thus creating one of Spider-Man's most murderous, brutal, and lethal adversaries.Cletus Kasady had a troubled and tortuous childhood of being beat and molested by his father, hated by his mother who loved her dog more than him, killing his grandmother by pushing her down a flight of stairs, and torturing his mother's dog who afterwards tries to kill him and is apparently beaten to death by his father, who receives no defense from Kasady during his trial.
Reason for Casting: Kazinsky hasn't had much work since Pacific Rim but he definitely looks the part and his upcoming projects Hot Pursuit and the Del Toro Warcraft look very promising. Kazinsky has more than enough acting chops to portray the crazed serial killer when he's not in full-on symbiote.
Olivia Cooke as Betty Brant
Betty Brant started as a personal secretary at the Daily Bugle and later became a top reporter. Betty is also one of the many love interests of Peter Parker and ex-girlfriend of Flash Thompson
Reason for Casting: We've seen from her appearances on Bates Motel, that Cooke can play a warm, friendly personality, necessary if she's playing the one-time girlfriend of both Peter Parker and Flash Thompson.
Lambert Wilson as J. Jonah Jameson
J. Jonah Jameson is the former employer of Peter B. Parker and remains an aggravate of Spider-Man. He was once the chief editor and publisher of the Daily Bugle, a New York newspaper, but has since become the duly-elected mayor of New York City.
Reason for Casting: Wilson is considered a very good villain actor, and while Jameson on a large scale isn't a villain, the character provides a sense of danger for the struggling Peter Parker as his employer at the Daily Bugle. With his overhanging presence as a threat to Parker's livelihood, it would take a actor used to playing villains to portray someone who is a thorn in Spidey's side in his civilian life.
