Raimi's SPIDER-MAN Trilogy: Black Cat Concept Art & Alternate Green Goblin Designs
Conceptual illustrator, James Carson, had the pleasure of working on all three of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. Now, come see his unused concept art for Black Cat, Green Goblin and Sandman.
Let's start with Spider-Man 2, the best film of the three. Over on James Carson's website, there is a rather tantalizing image in the Spider-Man 2 folder. It is of Spidey's feline ally, Black Cat/Felicia Hardy (image on the right). We've known for awhile that Black Cat was at one point early drafts of the script included the character, but this is our first look at a possible costume for her. Snazzy!
Next, we have artwork produced for Raimi's original Spider-Man film. These images include alternate designs for the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) costume, Spider-Man's (Tobey Maguire) mask and web-shooters.
Lastly, thee pieces of concept art that feature Flint "Sandman" Marko (Thomas Haden Church) materializing at the beach as a extravagant sand castle, for his ill daughter, Penny (Perla Haney-Jardine). This scene was in the original screenplay, but it was cut to make more room for Venom (Topher Grace). A character that was forced upon Raimi by Sony, and with the urging of producer Avi Arad.
