Sony Hack Reveals SPIDER-MAN & MEN IN BLACK Internal Discussions

A week ago, Sony became aware of a massive cyber-attack upon their company. The hackers, known as the Guardians of Peace, have now begun releasing internal documents and one them focuses on issues with their Spider-Man and Men In Black franchises.

The hackers seized Sony's official twitter accounts, shutdown their email systems and retrieved 100 terabytes of insider data that includes salaries of thousands of employees, passports, credit card numbers, social security numbers, medical records and even internal complaints. Guardians of Peace, which is hacker group claiming responsibility, have sent 40GB of leaked internal data to members of the media.

The website, Gawker, was one of those sites, and they have been sifting through the information.  One file they especially found interesting is titled, "Sony_2012_Comments." It contains complaints from employees of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) about the films the company has been producing. Here's a few highlight: "Seems like we just reboot old product instead of coming up with new ideas like the Hunger Games," "There is a general "blah-ness" to the films we produce," "we continue to be saddled with the mundane, formulaic Adam Sandler films," and "Stop making the same, safe, soul-less movies and TV shows." You can see more by clicking here.

There's even an internal discussion about the Spider-Man and Men In Black comic book movie franchises. These complaints appear to be two separate discussions from the same person.

Are you aware that Men In Black 3 may gross $600M at the box office, and yet will lose money for SPE? Shouldn't we question that strategy? Why are some studios making Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight - and we are considering movies like Moneyball, Steve Jobs story, Captain Phillips Story, Evel Knievel story, etc. Are you aware that SPE only has 1 franchise - Spiderman. Yet, it took 5 years to generate a sequel? Spidey 3 was released in summer 2007, #4 in 2012. Don't harry potters come out over 2-3 years?

Are you aware that SPE has only 1 franchise - Spidey? Yet we waited 5 years after Spidey 3 (2007) to release #4? Have you read the SEC annual report? Disney will make $300M on Spidey merchandise this year alone. We won't!

By the time all of these documents have been sifted through there should be some more inside information regarding these franchises. We'll keep you updated as they come along. Who knows, maybe we'll even find out if that rumored Aunt May movie was actually discussed.

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn.

North Korea is doing a good deed for the Hollywood industry: exposing Sony.

This just reaffirms that Sony will never let the rights to Spider-Man revert.

And this is what I was talking about earlier with a few users here. Sony needs the spider-man franchise. No amount of cash can settle for it because he offers endless franchises that can save their hines when it comes to money.

Even people inside Sony know that rebooting Spider-Man was a waste of time and money.

I wonder if they are still moving forward with the Sinister Six film nobody cares about.

The stuff that one Exec was saying is straight out of the critical comment sections of most sites. Why don't they ever listen?

Apparently they don't know what they are doing, and at least one of them understands how mismanaged Spidey has been.

Just 8 months ago they were confident in saying they don't need Marvel. Now they do. And Marvel can just laugh in their faces should Arad and Tomalch storm into Marvel HQ with their "plan".

I was hoping for something substantive about the nature of the films.

"We don't make enough money, dammit" is hardly an insight into the heart of the beast...

Sony should close down their movie studios and stick to video games & tech, since that's where they seem to be successful at the moment.

I agree with you, with the expection of one thing.

I hope they shut down everything except for their Playstatation department since the gameindustry would hurt a lot if they would dissapear.

If the rumors about Sony considering selling their film studio rights years ago wear true, then this could sink them. Heard they made a deal to keep their film slates going. If their not making that money back, they may have to consider selling again. I like the Amazing Spider-Man movies, but I would love to see him in the MCU.
