Sony Seeking Slightly Older Spider-Kid

Sony Seeking Slightly Older Spider-Kid

Awhile back Sony let out that they were casting for a younger version of Peter Parker in the ages of 4-6. Now they've decided they want a more mature child and are sending out a call for a 6 to 9-year-old.

Initially, the plan was to find an Andrew Garfield look-a-like between the age of 4-6 years old.

Sony is now letting agents know that they’ve changed the age of the character and will now see “boys 6-9 years old”.

The production will “no longer be testing anyone under the age of 6 for that part”, we’re told.

Either the casting director struggled to find a “match” within those age confinements, or simply decided the sequences would work better with a slightly older boy.

Word is the sequences will involve Parker’s biological parents. The scene likely explains how he came to be in the care of Aunt May and Uncle Ben (Sally Field and Martin Sheen, respectively).

The Spider-Man reboot film starts filming in December with Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans up for the role of Curt Connors/Lizard and Marc Webb serving as director.

I HATE THIS REBOOT SO MUCH!!! USE THE SAME SCRIPT, LEAVE OUT THE ORIGINS PART, & EDIT THE OTHERS SO THAT IT CAN TAKE PLACE IN THE RAIMI UNIVERSE...

No to Ultimate Live action Spidey, Yes to animated Ultimate Spidey

@megabatfan- The Raimi universe was FINISHED. If they ahd continued, EVERYTHING would be messed up. And no-one has EVER said this will be an Ultimate adaption, Webb just said he liked the Ultimate series. This reboot will more than likley be better than all three of Raimi's movies. Already they're hiring top notch actors, all of which are far superiour to the actors of the previous franchise. Garfield acts rings around Maguire.

Why do you say the Raimi universe is finished? Apart from the pss poor treatment of Venom & New Goblin (CRAP)...I think it's possible to continue from there...
I think it's WAY too soon to reboot.
Friends of mine that aren't even CBM fans question " But didn't we just see Spider-man's origin story" That's because SM1 is still relevant.
As for Garfields acting ability. As long as these stories continue we should only want the actors taking over the role to do a better job than the last. Doesn't make the last person to take on the role any less of n actor. Personally I think Tobey CAN act. His Parker was a little too cry baby for my tastes. Does that make SM1 & 2 any worse? (Notice i didn't mention SM3)

This is probably one of the best things I've heard about the movie so far. Even if it's only for a few minutes, I love the fact that they're going to explore a younger Peter Parker and his relationship with his parents. A little worried that we've had no news on whether Harry Osborn will be in the movie...still, it's early days I guess!

I wouldn't say Raimi forgot about it. It's improbable for any director to showcase all parts of a character's back story in a 2 hr movie. He selected what parts of his life he wanted to tell for his take on the character. As will Webb. As will any other director to take over the reigns in years to come.

I would be really interested in seeing Peter's parents. Especially if his dad is a scientist.

@megabatfan-Because everything ended. Harry died, Peter learned the truth about Uncle Ben's death. He rekindled his relationship with MJ, Venom died, Sandman was forgiven. Everything was done. It was a solid trilogy and the third wrapped everything up. There's no need for a continuation. Also, the contiunation we were going ot get was gonna suck. Vulture and the Vultress? Spidey knocking up MJ, the Black cat? Come on...that was entering Batman and Robin territory. A reboot was needed.

Just because it hasn't been 30 years doesn't mean it's too soon. The Incredible Hulk reboot came out only 5 years after the first one yet I don't hear anyone complain about that?

And who says we're going to see the origin? This young peter could reflect an important story element. If it does take any Ultimate refrence then it might refer to the symbiote storyline.

And Maguire can act, but he is nothing special. Where as garfield has already proved his diversity from being in things like Riding Hood to the lead in the drama Boy A. Garfield's performance have emotional depth outside of "whaaa it sucks being spider-man, whaaa mary jane whaa"

I wonder if his parents will be killed by the Red Skull.

And yes, I am aware of the rights issue... I just thought it was an interesting idea.

This could end up beating out the older Spidey films. I'm a Supes-fan first and foremost but damn from Marvel Spidey has always been most interesting for me and yeah being a fan during the time when he's getting such a promising reboot is GREAT. I hope this tops GL personally ;) (but again I'm biased lol)

I love the casting so far, all of them spot-on. Emma should still be MJ but I'll let that slide. I love the idea of showing Parker as a little child, it adds more backbone to his story in this film. Plus damn I've been waiting to see how badass the Lizard could be on the big screen.

@Ryden - Ok i get what you're saying about the story being finished & I agree. But hear this point of view. Star Wars can be broken down into two trilogies, the prequel being about the fall of Anakin & the original his redemption through his son becoming a Jedi. This is the approach I'm thinking towards not just Spider-man, but any successful comic book character. No need to reboot, just establish a new trilogy basically, but still within the established universe/ continuity. Just like the Bond movies basically which continue & continue, but have their own individual stories. Only from Casino Royale was it ever a reboot.
Like Nolan said, he wants to finish his story with TDKR. Which makes sense, finish that story arc (becoming the Batman & the consequences of it. The themes being fear for BB, escalation for TDK & i'm assuming redemption for TDKR)Reboot afterwards? NO! A fresh new trilogy that will deal with another story arc, but set in the same continuity. (probably taking on a side kick, the consequences of such...the trials of being a mentor)Just with another director & cast etc.
So going back to spidey, hell no do i want to see Raimi's vulture/ vulturess storyline. But the same story concerning the lizard can be adjusted to take place in the same continuity as Raimi's.

Ryden
Ryden - 11/10/2010, 5:10 AM
@megabatfan- But...why? If you realise that the Raimi trilogy had ended, then any sort of sequel in any form would not have made sense. The continuity would get screwed up. Reboots are nessasary sometimes when a certain franchiswe is going downhill, Spidey 3 received crappy reviews and they couldn't think of anything else to do with it. So they started again. I dwon't see what the problem is with that.

See I'd much prefer ONE director attached to a specific series of films, I'm not a fan of "continuations" because when we do get them they always end up like the Batman franchise, need I remind you of Batman Forever and Batman and Robin?

And to be honest, YES I'd love to see a Batman reboot after TDKR. Especially considering Nolan has said that it will definitley be the end, no more. And I'm glad, because when you bring on new directors to a franchise it takes away the feeling, and it scrtahces away at the continuity. Like to me Batman forever didn't feel like a sequel to Returns because it didn't have Burton's style, it's flare. The same would happen with Spidey or Bats. It would pretty much feel like a reboot anyway, the series at that point becomes, messy. Tainted.

We don't need a messy franchise.
