Spider-Man Saves CNN's Anderson Cooper From The Green Goblin In New York's Times Square

Couldn't make it to NYC on New Year's Eve? Well then you missed Spider-Man and Green Goblin on the JumboTron.

Here's a shorter albeit better quality version of the video courtesy of CNN.

Apparently, this was a taste of what it's like to attend the Broadway play, Spider-Man: Turn of the Dark. What do you guys think? Is it as bad as all the reviewers said it was?

Despite poor reviews and bad publicity, Spider-Man has been very successful at the Broadway box office. Ticket sales the day after the first preview on November 28, 2010, were more than one million dollars. During the first full week of 2011, Spider-Man had the highest box-office gross on Broadway, with a total of $1,588,514.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is a rock musical with music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge and a book by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The musical is based on the Spider-Man comics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, published by Marvel Comics, as well as the 2002 film about the character and the Greek myth of Arachne. lt tells the story of the origin of the character, his romance with Mary Jane and his battles with the evil Green Goblin. The show includes highly technical stunts, such as actors swinging from "webs" and several aerial combat scenes. At the first preview performance, these technical challenges caused several lengthy interruptions. Several actors were injured during rehearsals and previews.

Spider Man is the most expensive Broadway production and had the longest preview period (182 preview performances) in history. Although the musical began performances in November 2010, the official opening was postponed several times. After receiving feedback from preview audiences and scathing reviews from critics, previews were suspended in April 2011. Director Julie Taymor left the production, as co-director Philip William McKinley was brought in to redirect portions of the show. The musical's book was revised, and new previews began May 12, with the official opening on June 14, 2011. Critical reception of the opening was better than for the earlier version, but mixed at best, with praise for the visual effects but little enthusiasm for the book and score.

Man, that Green Goblin is horrible. And I was hoping Spidey would actually jump out and swing away from the building (or at least make him looks like so)...but well. If it had been that way, it would've been better in my eyes.

Spiderman does not work as a broadway play. The two good things about that vid was the music and the banter between Anderson Cooper and goblin.

At first it was creepy and i thought little kids would be scared, but then that stupid, gay, spider-man that people in tv shows and read-along books came onto it and ruined it. And we have Anderson Cooper say "OH Spider-man, u r such a hero!"- One Word.....

I'd MUCH rather watch fail Spider-Man/Green Goblin instead of Kathy Griffin ramble on in a hoarse voice about her vagina.

She makes anything look like Shakespeare in comparison.

Ok, Kathy Griffin definitely expresses what I was thinking about that stupid NYE performance. That Green Goblin costume is the absolute worst.

That Green Goblin persona was the best persona thus far they really need to take notes from his performance. But the costume did suck but that was amazing acting. That was a great performance. It was a bit long winded though but with refinement that could be a awesome Goblin persona

I finally saw the show on 12/30. Sure, the script is mediocre (but easy enough to follow, which I heard was not the case with the original version), the songs are just so-so, and the villains are ultra-camp. But the wire-work and acrobatics are amazing, and really make the whole show worth seeing. Seeing Spidey swinging all over the theater was jaw-dropping at times!

Oh, and the giant ball that Anderson Cooper was stuck in is the device the Goblin uses to transform regular folks into super-mutants. Aren't you sorry you asked? :)

Wow. That was [frick]ing awful. That "taste" was enough to make me ill. How this stupid, [frick]ing, glacier of shit play makes any money is beyond me. The only way this would have had any entertainment value would have been if another cable had snapped and sent "spidey" (lowercase because that "actor" pranced like an imbecile) plummeting to the street below.

Lord Loki has spoken

I second @AutobotCommanders comment! I see A bunch of sensitive crybabies on this site. I'm a huge Spiderman fan, and I loved this
its obvious it wasn't taking itself, which is fine for an entertaining new years shindig. Its also obvious that the crowd enjoyed it. free publicity 4 spidey. and that's also the best live action goblin that we've seen.
