SPIDER-MAN 2 Video Game Features A Powerful Tribute To Late BLACK PANTHER Star Chadwick Boseman

Spider-Man 2 is a mind-blowing experience, but aside from the epic action and comic book Easter Eggs, the video game sequel also features a very touching tribute to Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman...

Spider-Man 2 finally swung into stores this past Friday, and like us, we're sure many of you are having a blast exploring New York as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. There are heaps of Easter Eggs to be discovered, of course, but one has hit us much harder than any of the fun comic book references.

Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War star Chadwick Boseman died in 2020 following a lengthy battle with cancer. The news shocked everyone, not least his co-stars and friends who had been unaware of his heroic fight against the disease.

Marvel Studios paid tribute to the late actor in a number of very fitting ways, with last year's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever serving as a memorable send-off to Boseman's version of the iconic superhero.

In Spider-Man 2, if you choose to pay a visit to the Wakanda Embassy in Midtown, you'll notice that the street has been renamed Boseman Way. However, upon approaching the doors of the Embassy as Miles, you'll be given a prompt to press the triangle button. Do so, and Miles will do the "Wakanda Forever" salute.

You can check that out in the clip below but it's a really wonderful moment in the game and a fitting tribute to an actor who inspired countless people as T'Challa.

We recently learned that Spider-Man 2 will get a New Game Plus mode before the end of 2023, while there are already rumblings about Venom taking centre stage in a spin-off or DLC. With that in mind, we're sure there are plenty more Easter Eggs for Insomniac to throw into the mix in the weeks and months ahead.

Take a closer look at Miles' "Wakanda Forever" tribute below.

"Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other, and the ones they love," reads the game's synopsis, "from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat."

"Explore an expansive Marvel's New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear."

"Wield Peter's symbiote abilities and Miles' explosive bio-electric powers in battle against new and iconic Marvel Super Villains," it continues, "including an original take on a symbiote-infused Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and more from the Marvel Rogues' Gallery."

Spider-Man 2 is now available to buy worldwide.

Next to Ledger, this is probably the greatest loss the genre has ever suffered.

@MCUKnight11 - I would honestly say "genre wise" Chad's death was bigger mainly because he played one of if not THE most influential superheroes of the modern era. His and BP's impact on the genre was seismic!

@MosquitoFarmer - While Stan was inded an Icon of the genre his actual death was les impactful than Heath and Chad's because he got to live a very long and ful life, meanwhile Heath and Chad were cut down in their prime tragically.

Stan's death while incredibly sad, due to his age was not al that unexpected.

Miles also has a Black Panther version of his suit. 2 different versions and within those different versions you can also change the suit styles. The game is legit. Tbh... I think perhaps Kevin Feige should transition into video games. With the right developers like Insomniac (who are also doing the new Wolverine game) you could take Marvel storytelling to the next level.

I saw elsewhere that Miles does the salute but Peter doesn’t. I’m glad the toxic losers haven’t over taken these boards (yet) like other boards I visit complaining

This is a really weird comment to make, seems like you are trying to entice toxicity - but at the same time what you are saying isn't really grounds for toxicity to generate - it just seems like Insomniac forgot to code it for Peter.

I don't know why Insomniac wouldn't have Peter make the salute, because in-universe he's a massive fan of the Avengers and supporter of them. Him not being able to do the salute is kinda dumb from an in-universe perspective.

@Scarilian - go to some other gaming sites and read the vitriol being spout about Miles doing it and not Peter. Just fragile man children looking to be angry about something.

Also, let's not pretend like there isn't an element of that here everytime a cartoon character isn't the right color, or Brie Larson exists.

@SATW42 -
I'm interested in comic accuracy and story telling. Peter is inspired by the Avengers and would be willing to do the Wakanda Forever salute to show solidarity with heroes. Miles doing so also makes sense. As such it really should be an optional aspect for both of them.

The lack of including Peter in that option reflects poorly on Insomniac's understanding of the character. Their sequel suffers in regards to its story telling so it's not particularly surprising that they've ignored key aspects of the character.

It's slightly disrespectful and sorta racist also as they've made only the black character do the salute as if black heroes can only inspire black people and that only black people care about the death of a black hero. It's the Hollywood mentality of 'you can only care if people look like you' which is narcissistic and toxic.

If people want to get annoyed about aspects, they have a lot more to pick from in the sequel as the writing sucked in it.
