Five Things I Want From The Amazing Spider-Man 3

Five Things I Want From The Amazing Spider-Man 3

I enjoyed the Amazing Spider-Man 2 (I'd give it a 3/5) but this franchise still needs to improve in many ways. Here are 5 things I want to see in or for them to do or avoid in the third chapter.

Editorial Opinion

5. JJJ
An integral part of the Spider-Man universe, JJJ should have at least a cameo in the movie. My choice to play him: Craig Ferguson... (note: as much as I loved JK Simmons in the role, I don't want them to lazily carry over actors from one series to another)

4. BLACK CAT
I've wanted Black Cat in a Spidey movie for a long time and now that Felicia has finally been introduced hopefully they can introduce her Black Cat persona. How they would do that given that Jones' Felicia was barely given an introduction, I don't know - but I'd still like to see her included in some form.

3. INTRODUCTION TO MARY JANE WATSON
I've never been a Gwen Stacy fan (both in the comics and on screen) so I was happy to see her story arc finally concluded. Now its time for MJ to be introduced. Her and Peter don't have to be in a relationship but at least introduce her in this world. My choices to play her: Jane Levy, Emma Roberts, Holland Roden, Kaya Scodelario, or several others...

2. LESS ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP FOCUSED NARRATIVE
Much like the first movie, these scenes slowed down the narrative of TASM 2. There are far too many of these scenes, only a handful of which play any importance. While I'm sure Webb and co. wanted to demonstrate the bond between Peter and Gwen, it could have been handled much better. Luckily with Gwen gone and MJ (likely) only be introduced, we should see far less of these scenes.

1. LESS VILLAINS AND HANDLE THEM BETTER
TASM 2 had 3 villains, only one of which was truly needed or even good in the movie. Just stick to one villain and develop his or her arc properly. References to other villains (and maybe even an appearance by the Black Cat as a "is she good, is she bad?" supporting role) is fine but the focus should be on one primary villain.

Those are my thoughts, what do you want to see in TASM 3?

Ranking the Spider-Man movies:
1. Spider-Man 2 (5/5)
2. Spider-Man (5/5)
3. Spider-Man 3 (3.5/5)
4. TASM 2 (3/5)
5. TASM (1.5/5)

How about they start by making a good movie.

lol I wish guys but at least, imo, TASM 2 was an improvement over the awful 1st TASM. Hopefully if they can address some of the issues of TASM 2 they can make the 3rd better.

Emma Roberts would suck as MJ.

@TheReddestHood I disagree but there are many people who could play her. She just came to mind while I was writing this.

@gamecreatorjj I think they should use Flash Thompson venom instead of Eddie Brock.

I agree, except for 2. Spider-Man comics have ALWAYS been about Peter's relationships with others, whether it's romantically or just as friends. The relationships have been portrayed perfectly in this new series so far, so it definitely NEEDS to be continued.

^ Said that since the first one! ^ :p

Don't mind ASM2 its just I see it completely Ultimate Spidey.

Just change the name, its not Amazing ;)

Would rather have a rebooted continuation of Raimi's Spider-Man but that ain't gonna happen, looking forward to SINISTER SIX anyways!

They need to pump the brakes and do more focused stories. The entire movie could've been about Harry and Peter's relationship/his degradation into the Green Goblin, I was honestly more interested in his story than Electro's. I still liked Electro, I just think Harry's relationship with Peter, his father, and the fact that he was dying was just more compelling. Electro never really has been more than a thug anyway, he's not a "main villain" type of a character, just not enough there.

TASM is a romcom. I honestly don't want MJ, I've been hoping for Felicia to be a serious love interest. Simmons should never be replaced as JJJ.

Maybe another actress, that one looks way too similar to Emma Stone

Digging the list. I'm with Superherofan21, and have to disagree on 2. though.
With all that was going on in the film, I have to say the relationship between Peter and Gwen was the glue that held the movie together. It seemed a lot more natural, and Gwen had a lot more depth and range of emotion than Kirsten Dunst in my opinion. But yes, definitely introduce Black Cat. It's been needing to happen. If anything, Peter would be in a real dark place after ASM2, and Cat would add this sort of, "Devil May Care, adventurous dynamic" to the equation, since she started as a villain, but ended up in love with Spidey in the comics. If the symbiote was introduced,
that would add to Peter's dark tendencies after his tragic loss.
I vote, Symbiote, Kraven, and Black Cat.
That would be an easy thread to follow.

When I say Symbiote, I mean JUST the black suit. No Venom yet. He most definitely needs his own movie, which we'll be getting.

I agree with you. I understand why they did the romance though. I think if they didn't do that Gwen's death wouldn't have been so impactful. I get the whole going back and forth thing. He was conflicted. I loved when he said "What kind of person does that make me?" It just shows a lot of character development and not a thin script.

Great write up. I hope they use the black suit too! And it better look like the comics. Not that crappy Spider-Man 3 bs.

What do I want from TASM 3? For it to never exist. Seriously, 5 Spidey films in a dozen yrs is enough. Take a break for at least 5 yrs (if Sony is worried about losing the rights, try to renegotiate the contract, otherwise, take a break until right before they have to start filming to keep the rights), and then try a soft reboot. Get a new actor, but don't redo the origin (if absolutely necessary, show a few flashbacks.) Have it pick up about 3-4 years after he was bitten, and when he is in college. Don't use Gwen again, use MJ. And have him fight a true villain, not someone the audience is supposed to have sympathy with. But the main thing is to give him as long a break as possible. Let people get excited for him again.

I'll say you hit the nail on the head with #2. Enough with the romance narrative. I'm glad Gwen is gone but enjoyed the arc. Need to tighten up those love scenes, it slowed down everything and that's not good.

I think Felicity Jones would do well as Black Cat. Just thrown on the white wig. She's gorgeous.

My vote for Mary Jane is Karen Gillan (Dr. Who, Guardians of the Galaxy). She's a model, she's 5'11", she's gorgeous, and has the MJ personality of funny and spunky. And a natural bright red head.
