Garfield’s excellent written character and acting cannot, and should not, bring those shite films into a positive light. Hey Sony, your crap movies are still (checks notes closely) crap
MG0019 - 1/9/2022, 12:41 PM
@SanFranLand - It’s like the Twilight Zone. Two months ago TASM was derided; now these people are claiming that “we” have been demanding its continuation for so long. Um, no. No we haven’t.
zeon00 - 1/9/2022, 4:29 PM
@MG0019 - TASM was a ok movie only the first one
bcom - 1/9/2022, 4:40 PM
@SanFranLand - Agreed. Garfield's Spider-Man movies were terribly handled by Sony. I wouldn't say they are really bad movies, they just weren't as good as they should've been.

What No Way Home made clear to me is that Marvel have a way of getting to the comic core of each character. All of the returning characters were handled really well, except maybe for The Lizard who really didn't have as much to say or do as the others.

I think that unless Marvel Studios has a hand in co-producing a potential third Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movie, it could end up being equally as bad as the last two if Sony go it alone.
bkmeijer2 - 1/9/2022, 5:44 PM
@bcom - yeah, if they return to do the Garfield and/or Maguire franchises it could end badly if Sony does it alone. And since Marvel Studios plate is probably full, I rather see those franchises not continue. Even if I like Garfield's Spider-Man a lot
bcom - 1/9/2022, 6:10 PM
@bkmeijer - If you look at the current Sony Spider-Man character movies, of which we've only had two Venom movies so far, they're not overly memorable movies. Morbius doesn't seem to be breaking new ground either purely going by the trailers.

I think the difference is that Sony treat these movies as cash grabbers first and foremost with the mentality of "it's a Spider-Man character movie so people will come see it regardless" whereas Marvel know people want to see these movies so they put the effort in to tell a compelling story.

If Sony simply ride the coat tails of Garfield's much loved appearance in No Way Home then a third Sony movie could easily sink the franchise once again.
bkmeijer2 - 1/9/2022, 6:14 PM
@bcom - of all upcoming Sony Spider-Man projects I have faith in actually being compellimg is Olivia Wilde's possible Spider-Woman story. However, for that exact same reason I have no faith in it actually being made. Like you said, Sony seems to be going for the money.

That announced Jackpot project is a wild card though. No idea what to make of that
GarthRanzz - 1/9/2022, 6:33 PM
@MG0019 - Welp I have gone on record saying I like the Amazing movies the best. But I agree with I didnt get many cosupporters.
GarthRanzz - 1/9/2022, 6:35 PM
@bcom - Havent seen it yet as I have people close to me, I need to be careful. When I saw No Time To Die I had a cougher near me. That being said, I am curious if they got characters right. Sometimes MCU does really good, otherwise its kind bad how much they miss on characters.
bcom - 1/9/2022, 7:57 PM
@GarthRanzz - I won't spoil anything for you other than what is already public knowledge, but No Way Home treats the returning characters very well. I saw it with a friend who has been a life long Spidey fan. He has boxes and boxes full of Spidey comics. Anyway, after leaving the movie he said "I think that movie just turned Andrew Garfield from being my worst Spider-Man to my favourite Spider-Man". It's almost like Marvel realized all the shortcomings of his Spider-Man movies and corrected them in No Way Home.
bcom - 1/9/2022, 8:00 PM
@bkmeijer - I feel the same way about Spider-Woman. It does seem the most interesting out of all of them. There seems to be a lot of 'fan casting' for Daisy Ridley to take the lead role. I could see her doing it.
bkmeijer2 - 1/10/2022, 4:36 AM
@bcom - yeah me too. If it ever happens, I could even see her appear opposite Tom's Spider-Man
santoanderson - 1/9/2022, 11:18 AM
No disrespect intended towards Felicity, but she’ll be 40 by the time a new Spider-man movie could come out, even if they fast tracked it. She was the right-ish age for Black Cat back when she was first cast in the role… 9 years ago. But I just can’t imagine Sony (or Disney, depending on how these contracts work) casting a 40-year old actress to play Black Cat. Sorry if that sounds rude, ageist and sexist, but that’s Hollywood.
Nightwing1015 - 1/9/2022, 11:21 AM
@santoanderson - Yeah it's not ageist she's way older than Holland it wouldn't work
Deklipz - 1/9/2022, 11:27 AM
@Nightwing1015 - well people aren’t talking about her opposite holland but rather in a new Garfield spidey flick.
feedonatreefrog - 1/9/2022, 11:29 AM
@santoanderson - They cast 58 year old Ming Na Wen and Jennifer Beale in Boba Fett
Nightwing1015 - 1/9/2022, 1:53 PM
@Deklipz - Oh, I would rather see her in the MCU opposite Holland. It's the first big screen version of the character, let's give it to the MCU.
Nightwing1015 - 1/9/2022, 1:54 PM
@feedonatreefrog - He's not saying 58 year olds can't be cast. He's saying that Black Cat is usually younger than 40 when MCU Spider-Man is only like 19.
dragon316 - 1/9/2022, 11:18 AM
All this fan art is fans wishing for something may not happen fans have said since episode one of wanda vision mephisto he’s in show Ned of series no show, same can be said with new Star Wars trilogy snoke is darth maglius, emporer palpatine prove wrong again
bkmeijer2 - 1/9/2022, 5:42 PM
@dragon316 - I guess at its core thats a good analysis. Nothing against wishing or hoping for things you wanna see though, even if we end up not getting what we want. Because you know, that's life
solskulldeath - 1/9/2022, 11:28 AM
Meh.i prefer Anya Taylor.
billnye69 - 1/9/2022, 11:28 AM
Why is she wearing an Xmen 3 costume?
tripttwe - 1/9/2022, 11:39 AM
I actually prefer an older Black Cat. Give Holland the crush vibes for a seasoned charmer who actually CATches feelings for him as well. She brings him out of his depression, lonliness, and isolation, as he gains peak power with this alien wardrobe that makes him a superhero with anti-hero spikes. Teaching Mrs. Tingle meets rooftop romance, with a twist of cat and mouse chase and artsy fusticuffs.
Zer0squad - 1/9/2022, 11:57 AM
Hard [frick]ing pass.
BritishMonkey - 1/9/2022, 12:24 PM
Not much thought or effort put to it. Just the PS4 game model with her face shopped in.
If i didn't know better I'd guess this was a bosslogic piece.
bl0odwerk - 1/9/2022, 12:50 PM
I don't see it...
IBoughtTheBank - 1/9/2022, 2:51 PM
I think I'd like to see Anya Taylor-Joy in Holland's MCU universe as black cat and maybe a MJ version in garfield's SONY universe, maybe Emma Watson?
bkmeijer2 - 1/9/2022, 5:39 PM
@IBoughtTheBank - I kinda hope they would bring Shailene Woodley back then. Think I'm one of the few who actually liked that casting
bkmeijer2 - 1/9/2022, 5:38 PM
I would be open to it if we get another movie with Garfield, although I rather see Black Cat appearing opposite Tom's Spider-Man
GarthRanzz - 1/9/2022, 6:31 PM
Damn MeToo movement. This is missing my favorite part of Black Cat's costume.
SpaceAgent - 1/10/2022, 7:12 AM
@GarthRanzz - Dude if you're that thirsty... just go watch some porn.
Apparently there's quite a lot of that on the Internet.
TheWarThor - 1/10/2022, 1:57 AM
It's a real shame Black Cat hasn't been introduced yet. She opens up a whole new story for Peter, they have so much history.
They had some really touching moments in the comics recently, when Peter was in a coma and she went to see him.
