In an interview with
Uproxx, as part of promoting the upcoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming, star Tom Holland evidently let slip that the
Marvel One-Shot series, included in the home releases of Marvel films, would be making a comeback. While Marvel dipped their toe back into that realm with the two non-canon
Team Thor shorts, it seems now they may be coming back in full, as Tom Holland seemed to reveal when elaborating on how he would like to see Ant-Man appear in a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
In the next solo movie, who would you want from the MCU to be what Iron Man is in this movie? If it were up to you, who would you pick?
TH: I’d like Ant-Man to show up every now and again.
And you’d get to hang out with Paul Rudd.
TH: Paul Rudd is such a funny dude, super nice. Ant-Man is so funny. I think a really mini Spider-Man could be so cool. Could you imagine like if you shrunk Spider-Man?
And they went on an adventure in the Microverse?
TH: Yeah! It would be so cool! I think you’ve got yourself a movie there. I think it would be so cool.
You should pitch that.
TH:I want to do a short. That’s what I want to do. I want to do a 20-minute short with me and Paul Rudd…
They used to do those on the DVDs and Blu-rays.
TH: Yeah. I think they are planning on doing it again.
Really?
TH: I probably just spoiled a big spoiler. Kevin Feige’s probably going to be furious.
While mostly the One-Shots were used as inconsequential pieces to spruce up the DVD extras or to correct continuity errors (such as Tony Stark's appearance at the end of The Incredible Hulk contradicting Iron Man 2), it also birthed the original
Agent Carter short that wound up spawning the two-season TV show, the
only Marvel Television MCU entry that Kevin Fegie has personally worked on.
Could the return of the one shots potentially see more television spinoffs, perhaps the long-stewing
Damage Control TV show, which comprises the
only concrete time the TV show has introduced an element before the films did?
Looks like we'll have to wait and see to find out!
