The latest addition to the cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is former Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi.

Following the news that Firefly's Nathan Fillion and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) are in negotiations for the Warner Bros. sequel, Deadline reports that Capaldi has also signed on - although, as with all previous casting announcements, his role is being kept under wraps.

In far less exciting news, the trade has also heard that SNL alum Pete Davidson may also be on board for a small cameo appearance.

Capaldi joins fellow new Task Force X recruits Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior and Storm Reid, along with returning stars Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis. Plot details remain under wraps, but we may get a better idea of what to expect very soon as production is sceduled to commence very soon.

Apparently, a table read for the film is taking place on September 11 with production expected to commence on Sept. 23. The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.

I’m so far behind on DW I didn’t even realize he wasn’t the Doctor anymore, I thought they still hadn’t switched the that lady from Black Mirror yet. I really gotta get back to that show I dipped out not long after Capaldi came in just bc I hate watching week to week style shows now

I liked Pete Davidson in The Dirt. He played a good straight man juxtaposed with all the debauchery.

@Desrow - I came in the comments just for that. The Jamie rant on builders is also a gem in this film.

Pete Davidson would be a good dude to get his head detonated in the first 30 seconds of him being on screen.

Pete Davidson is for sure getting his head blown off.

I don’t get Pete Davidson. My favorite SNL cast members have always been those with excellent timing, impressions, musical ability, intelligence and/or musical talent. Davidson’s schtick is “He’s a young, skinny, weird-looking guy who likes weed.” To quote Barstool Sports, Pete has “butthole eyes”.

How is this guy the most famous SNL castmember, and how did he convince Kate Beckinsale to touch him?

I don’t get it.

@santoanderson - The fact that this guy and Kate Beckinsale were a thing is the saddest part for me? Like how... honestly how?

Capaldi was in one of my favorite show's of all time but Pete Davidson is one of the worst of all time. Not sure how to handle this.

Pete Davidson's role should be like Justin Bieber's in Zoolander 2 where his only purpose is to die.

Capaldi is a fantastic actor, for sure my second favourite Doctor! So this is awesome news, happy that he gets to be part of another superhero story that isn't with "The Ghost" this time! LOL

@Jayman627 - I never understood the hate for Capaldi, meanwhile Jodie is a huge step down (not because she's a woman) mostly because of the showrunner.. amongst other things

@bobevanz - I agree, luckily reception towards Capaldi has shifted much more since his departure, I think people who were used to the young and spirited feeling of the Doctor weren't used to the older and curmudgeony feel of Capaldi which is very "old school" Doctor! Really just shows the contrast between the old and new Who fans!

And sadly Chris Chibnall just hasn't brought any exciting and fresh stories for Jodie to explore yet! The show runner before I always thought brought everything to the table, whether or not it landed at least it was different and exciting! Hopefully this new season can really change people's thoughts on Jodie too, cuz I do think she has potential to be a truly great Doctor! :)
