It looks like another familiar face from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be jumping over to the world of DC Films, as 3x Academy Award-nominee Sylvester Stallone (Rocky; Rambo; Creed) has just revealed via Instagram that he's joined the cast of The Suicide Squad in a mystery role.
He's the latest Marvel alum to reunite with director James Gunn on the project, following Michael Rooker, David Dastmalchian, Steve Agee, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, and Taika Waititi. The duo previously collaborated on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where Stallone played the legendary Ravager captain Stakar Ogord.
The film wrapped in late February, prior to the global coronavirus pandemic shutting down the industry, and has been in post-production ever since. Despite Gunn recently stating that the film wouldn't undergo any reshoots, it sounds like some sort of additional photography may already be underway.
While Stallone is likely only filming a cameo (possibly even voicing a character) fans are already speculating that he might have signed on to play either Rick Flag Sr. or the original Wildcat, Ted Grant,. Whatever the case may be, Stallone is not tipping his hand so we'll have to wait until next August to find out!
The upcoming film stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, John Cena as Peacemaker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Steve Agee as King Shark, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as T.D.K., Sean Gunn as Weasel, Storm Reid as Tyla, Taika Waititi in an undisclosed role, Joaquín Cosío as Mateo Suárez, Juan Diego Botto as Silvio Luna, Tinashe Kajese as Flo Crawley, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and John Ostrander as Dr. Fitzgibbon.
