Many fans continue to demand that Warner Bros. #ReleaseTheAyerCut of Suicide Squad, and a newly surfaced clip gives us an idea of what we could expect from that cut as The Joker confronts Harley Quinn.

When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opened to mostly negative reviews, Warner Bros. panicked and decided to drop the darkness and convoluted mythology for a lighter approach. That's understandable, but the decision also resulted in two cobbled together movies with conflicting creative visions in the form of Suicide Squad and Justice League.

A massive fan-campaign ultimately saw the four-hour cut of Zack Snyder's Justice League arrive on HBO Max last March. However, while #ReleaseTheSnyderCut paid off, there's no indication that will be the case for #RestoreTheAyerCut.

The vocal support for David Ayer's original vision of Suicide Squad to be shared with the world is still there, though, and a clip from the movie has now surfaced on social media. As you can see, The Joker is far less welcoming of Harley Quinn when she boards that helicopter and makes it clear to his sidekick that they're going to be having a serious talk now he's rescued her from Task Force X.

This is quite the departure to Suicide Squad's theatrical cut, which saw The Joker embark on a quest to get Harley back out of a sense of twisted love (despite leaving her to be captured by Batman).

Since this movie was released in 2016, we've had a reboot from James Gunn - The Suicide Squad - and a spinoff TV series on HBO Max, Peacemaker. Another character from that movie is expected to receive their own show, so Warner Bros. is clearly moving on from Ayer's vision, and that alone likely closes the door on them ever deciding to #ReleaseTheAyerCut.

Ayer Cut was supposed to show the abusive relationship between Joker and Harley, as it was in the comics.

That is probably the most intriguing thing about this cut, because seeing 13-year olds post photos ''I want my BF to treat me like Joker did Harley'' was really tiresome during 2016.

I'd still watch it, but it doesn't help the 'worst joker' comparisons.

Only time he was watchable was in the 2 minutes he showed up for in ZSJL

@UniqNo - I thought he was just as awful in that sequence as he was in Suicide Squad.

@NHartMusic - I think it was the context his character was written into that was alright. Leto has always been an over rated actor.

Saying that though I did find him quite funny in House of Gucci. not sure if I was suppose to though.

Drop the Ayer cut so we can see how shite it is!

I really don't understand all the hate for Leto's Joker? This is just another characterisation of a comic book villain. It wasn't an actor's take on a real person that can be judged by people who knew or witnessed them. They decided to take his look in another direction and artistically it was a brave choice, given the small mindedness of the 'faithful'. Was it a great film? No, was his a character defining performance? No. Was it an interesting spin on a too often generic role? Absolutely.
Take it for what it was and move on kids . . .

@ZomZom -

Take it for what it was and move on kids . . .

Aside from how bad the film is itself, we’ve been saying that it is a shitfest rendition of the character since 2016 and no amount of extra footage will change it. In fact it makes it much worse. We have been trying to move on from this.

Go tweet this lovely gem of advice to David Ayer.

@ZomZom - Leto's always been overrated. for me his performance is never seamless. he always seems like he's ...well...acting, which I know sounds weird.

that said though. I can only wish I look as good as him when I'm 50.

Tbh the Joker and Harley stuff is the only reason I’m interested in this. Do I think it’ll be amazing? No. But if it’s closer to a mad love sort of deal it’d be worth checking out for me

This is a quote from Ayer himself from an interview back in 2016 after Suicide Squad was released...

Chatting with Collider, Ayer acknowledged that while plenty of footage was left on the cutting room floor, the final theatrical edit is his cut: "We have a chunk, there's definitely over 10 minutes of material on there. But this cut of the movie is my cut, there's no sort of parallel universe version of the movie, the released movie is my cut. And that's one of the toughest things about writing, shooting, and directing a film, is you end up with these orphans and you [frick]ing love them and you think they'd be amazing scenes and do these amazing things but the film is a dictatorship (laughs), not a democracy, and just because something's cool and charismatic doesn't mean it gets to survive in the final cut. The flow of the movie is the highest master."

Fair call that he may have not wanted to cause bad blood between him and WB at the time he was promoting the movie, but it annoys me when people don't back themselves and then years later turn around and backtrack on their own words. Have the balls to stand behind your work or speak up for yourself if your work was compromised. He didn't have to say the theatrical cut is his cut.

Isn't it odd that footage or stills from unofficial and never-released "director cuts" never come out of Marvel Studios, but over at free-for-all Warner Bros, it's par for the course?
