A rumor did the rounds a while ago (we didn't run it ourselves, but it was out there) which claimed that Zatanna was set to make her big-screen debut in The Suicide Squad, but fans of the popular DC magic-wielder will be disappointed to hear that she will not be appearing in the movie.

Director James Gunn responded to a fan's query about Zatanna over Twitter, making it clear that he never so much as considered adding her to the ensemble.

Gunn did confirm that more casting news is imminent, however.

The Suicide Squad has already assembled a massive cast of new and returning characters, so it is somewhat surprising to discover that Task Force X is going to be bolstered by even more new recruits.

As for Zatanna, last we heard Warner Bros. did have plans for solo movie featuring the character, but there's been no updates since.

I wonder if Feige and Disney/Iger are kicking themselves over losing time with GotG 3 over this. Especially with Gunn saying that this is "the most fun" he's ever had making a movie...

Ever since Gunn said that, I've felt weird about him going back to work on Guardians 3. I just wonder if his heart will still be in it by then.

Why would Zatanna ever debut in a Suicide Squad movie? It doesn't really make sense so I'm not surprised that it turned out to be false.

We have already heard a lot of casting news over the last months. Hopefully the next announcement is confirmation about what characters they're all playing.

I'll say it again. I wish none of that drama happened and Gunn was finishing Vol. 3 by now instead. I don't understand at all why we're getting a soft-reboot/sequel to a horrible movie from just a couple years ago. Not even Gunn has me interested, only frustrated that we're spending years on this movie. Maybe if they hired someone competent the first time around instead of David Ayer, but I just don't care about seeing more Suicide Squad, personally.

Well good Suicide Squad would be an odd fit but she needs to make her big screen debut soon. Stop leaving all your awesome characters on the sidelines.

I never heard the rumor, but I would have enjoyed some Zatanna by Gunn.

It wouldn't make sense to have her debut in The Suicide Squad, but I do like to see her make her debut anytime soon

I would love for the villains be LOA with heavy focus on shiva and silver monkey. Also is cena in this I heard rumor he was in it bc he would be great as sportsmaster yj style.

@Grodd87 - Based on the SS covers Gunn tweeted early on I think they'll be fighting the Jihad or some similar supervillain terrorists with a different name.

I hope Gunn doesn't bring any of his minimum-wage humor into Suicide Squad. I don't want to hear anyone talking about their sensitive nipples or how large their bowel movements are.
