BOX OFFICE: MAN OF STEEL Now Predicted To Make $105 Million During Opening Weekend

A few negative reviews will seemingly do nothing to stop Superman from demolishing the competition this weekend at the North American box office! The latest estimates ahead of Man of Steel's opening at midnight tonight have the reboot pegged as grossing upwards of $105 million. Read on for details!

While Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are sticking to their conservative estimate of an $85 million opening for Man of Steel in North America this weekend, tracking is currently at $95 million and many analysts believe that it will soar higher than $105 million over the course of its three day opening. $100 million would of course be ideal, especially as the movie would then join an elite club of only 24 other releases which have managed to hit that number on their opening weekend. While it could be argued that a few million either way won't matter in the long run, the headlines and buzz this generates could ultimately lead to it grossing much more. With a sequel reportedly on the way and Justice League not too far behind, it's essential that Man of Steel does well. "Comic book movies can do that," Exhibitor Relations vice-president and senior analyst Jeff Bock said of the chances that it will in fact over perform rather than disappoint. "Because of the fan boys, these movies have more power behind them than most films, and this one really is highly anticipated." Its main competition (not in terms of hitting the #1 spot, but from how many screens and dollars it loses) will come from comedy, This Is The End.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

I've seen too many critics whine about the lack of the Superman "I've known and loved for over 50 years". 'Man Of Steel' is exactly what it says on the tin; it depicts a man seeking to find his place in the world whilst struggling to accept his origins. This film is an origin story, so it shouldn't be that hard to realise that this film seeks to explore the origin of the character, not to revitalise a series of films outdated by half a century. I highly doubt that the majority of these critics giving rotten reviews use the actual comic depictions of Superman as their bias source material, instead clinging to the last vestiges of the Richard Donner films they have left.
'Man Of Steel' breathes new life into the legacy of Superman, not the legacy of the late Christopher Reeve which many critics seem to be unfairly judging this film by.

We'll shall see. Will this be a typical highly visually entertaining Zack Snyder film that sucks, or will it show his evolution into a true balanced film maker? I think this will pretty much decide if Snyder is the next Michael Bay.

Heard 'This Is The End' was pretty funny.

That being said, got my tickets for tonights' showing. Pretty pumped about a more action-packed 'Superman' flick.

Don't care too much about what critics say concerning CBM's. Some hated Captain America: TFA and I thought that was the best of all Phase One Marvel movies. But, that's just me.

I suggest you all be like me and form your own opinions. BE LIKE ME!

I see it in a little over 3 hours for the 2nd time, and I can say I'm just as excited to watch it again as I was for last week's screening. This movie is EXACTLY what we've all wanted.

@GFart - "Nice. I'm feeling pretty good about a shared DC universe."

Wishful thinking.

@Batz11 - TDKR 87%
IM3 78%

TDK 94%
A 92%

That's all that matters to me. ;)

It will do well the first weekend, but I am worried about staying power. Warner Bros wants this to hit 300 mill in the US and 900 mill to 1 billion worldwide. I hope it does. Supes is my favorite DC character. Right now it looks like those numbers might not happen.

Last year the dull and dreary Dark Knight Rises destroyed my belief that Nolan was a great filmmaker. I had argued that he could be the next Spielberg.
Ive since realized hes more like the next George Lucas.
But Im very surprised Snyder couldnt do better than this after he did so well with Watchmen.

People can bash me aqnd call me a hater for being critical of this film but as with TDKR I had VERY high expectations and was let down.

As for the films action and CGI I can see that on video game demos.

I still have faith in James Morgold. Iron man and Superman sucked but hopefully Wolverine will come through with a win!

I've read critics say, "Superman wasn't broken. Why did Snyder try to fix something that wasn't broken?"

^^^^This is why some critics, aka most of them, are completely full of shit. The last 3 Superman movies made have sucked majorly!! The two that were any good are super dated and not easily accessible for new audiences. OF COURSE THIS NEEDED A REBOOT!!

Um... I'm choosing to remain optimistic about this movie until I see it tonight... but a "few negative reviews"? This movie is getting slammed pretty hard that much is obvious. From the sound of the reviews, it looks like I'll be getting all the action but none of the depth promised... sigh. Well hopefully I'll enjoy it anyway.

@1geekygurl - He's a greatest director of our generation since Kubrick. His ideas and executing them are near perfect. I'm more of a Cameron guy, but I can't take away what he's done.

Now as a producer? Yeah, he's lousy.
