One of the most debated performances in CBMs has always been the performance of Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. Some people thought Routh did an amazing job as the titular character of Clark Kent/Superman, while others, myself included, thought he was sub-par at best. While doing a recent interview with Digitalspy.com, Bryan Singer seems to reiterate what many of the people against Routh have been saying...

"If I'm really honest, what I probably would have done is go back and retell the origin story with someone like Nicholas Hoult [playing Clark Kent/Superman]," he said.

"I would have done it differently from Richard Donner's original, which I love, but instead of doing a sequel I'd have started from the beginning - maybe I had that in the back of my mind and instead translated it to X-Men: First Class!"

To me, it reads as if Singer finally admits, even though he's done so on many occasions, that he only casted Routh based on his erie resemblance to Christopher Reeve.

While I think Hoult looks nothing like Superman, I'm glad that Mr. Singer is starting to see what he did wrong with his movie. Yes, it's always nice to pay homage to the past, but you can't live in it too much.
