Casting Specs for Superman Reboot Revealed!

New reports claim Warner Bros. are searching for 'Clark Kent' for the Zack Snyder-directed Superman reboot that'll likely either be a discovery, or an actor from TV who isn't yet a big star. Make the jump for all the specs.

Over at Deadline, new & well known details for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel reboot have been revealed, regarding what Snyder & Warner Bros are looking for in the next 'Clark Kent'.

"Insiders tell us the studio is open to creating a star as it reboots the Superman franchise. The actor will likely either be a discovery, or an actor from TV who isn't yet a big star. And he'll be in the age range of 28-32.The studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors before making a decision."

The site makes further mention of actors whose receiving buzz — True Blood's Joe Manganiello, 34, who reportedly has said he's being considered; Armie Hammer, 24; The Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder, 32; and of course Mad Men's Jon Hamm, 39, who has since laughed off the speculation, but clearly is interested — but doesn't exactly say they're in the running.

"Agents who are readying candidates note that hiring an established series regular might not even be possible. The film will likely begin production around next June, and that shooting schedule could wreak havoc with fall prime time schedules. The studio has to meet that production start date because some of the rights are in jeopardy in 2013."

With a targeted winter 2012 release & evidently commencing production June next year, it seems we're in for another "Captain America" fiasco, where between now & then, several contenders will be noted. With that said, who do you think should be considered to portray the new 'Man of Steel'?

Great find DCMF! :) An unknown is the way to go I think...Chris Hemsworth was pretty much an unknown before he was cast as Thor and now I cant think of anyone better for the role.

Nice find man! To tell you the truth I have no idea who should play Superman. I mean I would love to see Routh once again, but since that won't happen, I really don't know...

But like Josh said, casting an unknown seems like a good idea...

Ian Somerhalder? Really? That would be a bad choice and not because of The Vampire Diaries. Mainly because he probably weighs 135 pounds.

Nivag76 @ Your right dude, anyway Ian Somerhalder screams Dick Grayson easy!

jazzman @ I bet they do (well he'll try out for the part) but I can't seeing him going that far, hell Welling when he first started took the piss outta Superman's costume, so just coz theres a movie, he shouldn't get it, can't anyways, Smallvilles to [frick]ed up now to even start!

Awesome find DCMF! :)
Really liking that they're gonna go for an unknown! I'm going for either Jon Hamm, Armie Hammer, or Jared Padalecki.

@LEEE777
True to that!

Seeing how Armie Hammer isn't in a TV series and all the positive buzz he has been getting from The Social Network, not to mention his previous relationship with WB/DC (he was cast as Batman in George Miller's Justice League movie), he seems like the ideal candidate.
Remember that it's not so much who is best for the character, but who is the best available candidate for the character...

FRICK JON HAMM he's to old lol i am just kidding but really he's actually known so not a wise move, Somerhalder is a perfect young bruce wayne or even better dick grayson, i seriously dont like armie hammer.
@Jared Padalecki is good choice right height and everything

the best pick for superman would have been Jackman if he wasnt wolvie already, so the best option is a unknown, even if they pick one of the rumoured choices(even HAMM) i know snyder and nolan will make it work

theangrytroll - 11/18/2010, 1:48 PM
I hope they stick to this. All of it. Go with an unknown, or a virtual unknown. And stay between those ages, and forget about everyone who has been mentioned so far. Go with a stage actor who's only done a small supporting role in one movie. Hey - it worked once before.

Who the hell keeps throwing Joe Manganiello's name into the mix? Yeah the dude is tall and ripped beyond belief, but com'on now...he doesnt have any type of facial feature resembling Superman.

An unknown we haven't seen as any superhero
would be my choice.

Start over from scratch and make it "SUPER",
Zack! Now that's the ticket!

Ibz - 11/18/2010, 1:51 PM
@supertrackmonkey sorry dude no offence but i gotta disagree i think its important to find a actor who is best for the character but whatever supermans going to RETURN in style thanks to snyder and nolan

Armie Hammer FTW. Superman is 25 in year one. Armie is 25 when MOS is shooting. He also has the look, height and chops. Which other choice has Oscar buzz?

Joe Manganiello... When did Superman have a broken nose?

Oh and BTW, Welling *shudder* will be busy with Hellcats. Good. Best place for him.

I vote for Jared Padalecki from tv's Supernatural. He's 6'4". He's got dark hair, a deep voice, he's gotten extremely muscular. Plus he's got that innocent, farm boy look to him that Superman needs. May I also say that I think Pierce Brosnon should play Jor-EL, Jeffrey Dean Morgan should play Jonathon Kent, Natalie Portman should play Lois Lane, and Billy Zane should play Lex Luthor

This sounds better than what Arnie Hammer was told 35 to 40 year old range LMAO!!

This is sort of what I expected to be honest.

"An actor from TV that is not yet a big star"? Yep, sounds like Welling to me. He'll probably try out for it. I mean, if they are testing "hundreds" of actors, then they're likely to test everybody that's been rumored and is in the right age catagory aswell as testing Welling and Routh, to please their respective fanbases.

Henry Cavill, Daniel Cudmore, Jon Hamm or Armie Hammer!

Justin Hartley looks like a good choice too? I dont know anything about his acting skills or height thou cause i dont watch Smallville, but judging by his looks im ready to give him a chance.
Im ready to give Ryan McPartlin a chance too. He can act well. I know that.

I say Lucas Bryant from Haven, and Queer as Folk.

He's 6'2 and good actor (by far the best on haven) IMO,
and almost completely unknown.
He just needs to gain some weight.

@Superguy1591 Why should Superman look physically imposing?
He CAN destroy a city without even trying.
So why does he need to look like it?
I think a smaller build Supes is better.Enemies Won't realize what they're getting themselves into, until it's too late.

I love all these posts basically trying to cast superman by pictures.

I'm waaay more concerned about the ACTING ability of who ever gets that part, I have no doubt that Nolan and Snyder can make him LOOK like superman.

its' the acting that scares me.

I still think Matt Bomer would make an excellent Superman. His performance in "White Collar" is just stunning.

I think Galactus should create a script which causes a fatal feedback loop to the keyboard of anyone suggesting Routh or Welling.

Might be able to have a sensible conversation then (sorry Leee ;)).
