DC Studios Bosses Address Henry Cavill's SUPERMAN Departure, The Status Of Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, And More

The DCU's "Gods and Monsters" slate was announced earlier today, and DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have now updated fans on the status of several actors from the "Snyder Era."

Chapter 1 of the new DCU's slate, titled "Gods and Monsters," was officially revealed earlier today, with multiple big and small screen projects announced for the next few years.

Now, we have some details from last night's Q&A with DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, who addressed several lingering questions and concerns from those in attendance.

The journey to this new era for DC-based content was not without controversy, with Henry Cavill's departure as Superman after only recently reprising the role for Black Adam's mid-credits scene something many fans found difficult to accept.

We didn’t’ fire Henry," said Gunn when asked about the actor's short-lived return. "Henry was never cast. He was in a cameo and that was the end of his story.”

“A lot of people made assumptions which weren’t true,” the filmmaker continued. “But for me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers want to cast. For me, for this story, it isn’t Henry. I like Henry. He’s a great guy. I think he’s gotten dicked around by a lot of people including former regimes of this company. But this Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.”

As for the likes of Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Zachary Levi (Shazam), it does sound like they're out of the picture... for now!

“There’s no reason why all the people you mentioned, couldn’t be part of the DCU, we just haven’t decided what the story is that we want to tell that incorporates Shazam or Aquaman,” said Safran.

The DC bosses were also asked about the super-fast elephant in the room: The Flash star Ezra Miller and his highly troubling, some would say downright inexcusable, behaviour over the oast year or so.

“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery," said Safran. "We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery.”

It sounds like Miller might well reprise the role of Barry Allen down the line after all.

Translation for Ezra Miller portion: We are seeing if we can sweep him under the rug long enough for people to forget his scandals and accept him back.

@MrDandy - 100%. I think the insider reviews of Flash is also why they might feel this way. If its a hit then it does kinda suck to instantly have a new Flash after his first ever solo film.

Safran and Gunn left the door open for Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller and Zachary Levi to continue playing their respective DC superheroes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash and Shazam, but Gunn reiterated that Henry Cavill will not continue as Superman.

(A separate Superman movie produced by J.J. Abrams through Bad Robot, and written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, remains in development and would exist outside the DCU.)

War it is, Jimbo.

Easiest thing in the world to write Ezra out by having the final time travel of the movie turn him into a different actor under the mask. I have no idea why they are messing around with that nutjob, unless it's damage control and not wanting to tank the film's box office.

Honestly disappointed with how muddled and confused everything still is after these announcements. We still don't know if we are heading for a full reboot- a soft reboot after the events of The Flash. We don't know who is or isn't involved and which franchises are or are not continuing. Add on Elseworld label to the top and you have a direction that seems scared to commit to anything and is a big mess.

However, I will note I do (for the most part) like the slate. I just don't like the lack of clarity for the DC Studios direction
