MAN OF STEEL Looking To Get A Big Boost From Toy Lines

MAN OF STEEL Looking To Get A Big Boost From Toy Lines

A new report is out that says Zack Snyder's new Superman film, Man Of Steel, is getting help from its upcoming toy lines. The Demand is so high that it rivals that of Christopher Nolan's last Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

Last week we got our first taste of some of the new toys that will be released in Warner Brother's upcoming Superman reboot, Man Of Steel. The toys featured a wide variety of looks at Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as Zod (pictured left), and many more. The feedback on the toys has been great, which is prompting retailers to tell Warner Brothers, "We want more". According to a new Variety report, Warner Brothers has secured more toy licenses already than what it did for 2006's Superman Returns. Another pleasant surprise for them is that the merchandising is already on par to be the same as The Dark Knight Rises. The demand is so great, that it surprised the executives at Warners.

This show of faith by retailers is a good sign for not only the movie, but those who hope to see a Justice League movie one day. As reported a couple days back, the Justice League movie hinges solely on how Man Of Steel does at the box office. Warner Brothers has put some serious money behind the film to set it up for success, and this is an encouraging sign for them. For the latest on Man Of Steel, make sure to check back here at CBM.

MOS is gonna crush 2013. And the pathetic haters, particulary a few on this site, who keep on proving how clueless they are about all things Superman.

I know it's necessary, but everytime they start talking toys, I can't help but think about gian spiders, gay robots and a non-flying Superman.

My ONLY complaint with the costume is no "S" on the cape...but that's easily overlooked. frankly I suppose the "S" really wouldn't make much sense since its apparently an altered version of some traditional Kryptonian garb.

Other than that...I'm sold :)

WB may as well announce justice league now. Because this is going to make money simply for the fact it's superman. While superman returns didn't make superman type of money, it still made $400 million and that was a rehash and boring as shit. Batman, superman and spider-man movies should make $600 million minimum, simply on they're names.
ElShumway
ElShumway - 1/30/2013, 6:48 AM
@LEVITIKUZ - It doesn't work that way in the world of movie box office. You can't point your finger and say something can do that something else can too. And you cannot gauge hype based on fanboy sites or youtube views or whatever because plenty of films who didn't do too well had internet talking about it. Only 14 films in the history so far made 1 billion so it's not that easy. And Skyfall? Compare MOS to the reboot which was Casino Royale. That one made 599 million WW. Expect and hope 600-800 for MOS. Anything over that would be an incredible accomplishment.

ElShumway
ElShumway - 1/30/2013, 7:02 AM
@LEVITIKUZ It has a shot, sure, but right now, it's a long shot. Bay's film made a billion, yes. And it was the third in the series. Man of Steel is a REBOOT. A reboot of a character who doesn't have as much movie drawing power as the likes of Batman or Spider-Man. And back to Bay, his movies make a lot more than Snyder's. Again, you'r fanboy mind is clouding your judgment.

@LEVITIKUZ The best CBM ever? The movie looks amazing and It's easily my most anticipated movie of 2013, but to say its going to be the greatest CBM ever because its superman isn't a good enough reason to warrant it being the best CBM movie ever. To be the best CBM ever it needs to bring something unique and fresh to the table, and while it looks great, the only new thing it looks like its going to do is give us an epic superman fight. And if it brings up the same themes movies like, the avengers and the dark knight films bring up then it needs to hit them better than they did.
ElShumway
ElShumway - 1/30/2013, 7:16 AM
It might be the best CBM ever and it might disappoint. None of us can know until we've seen. So far it's looking as good as anything and better than most. We'll see...

Screw the avengers, man of steel will crush avaturd! People need to get over the overly light hearted avengers, yes it was good. But it's SUPERMAN. Batman didn't need a huge cast of superheroes to make over a billion. But with the king daddy of superheroes, SUPERMAN will dominate.
I'm a batman fan all the way, and love cbm's but I'm going to love seeing SUPERMAN crush all others.
I'm with you LEVITIKUZ.

mos is either gonna be the greatest cbm or a cluster[frick] failure of epic proportions. that's how i see it. [frick], i don't even like superman but everytime i watch the trailer and see cavill launch into the sky, i grin like a 4 year old again... it's so goddamn beautiful and inspiring.

I can't believe Man of Steel has been downgraded in CBM.com to simply a preamble to a Justice League film. The other day an article saying "Oh, we have to see MOS as many times as possible if we want a JL film" and now "This show of faith by retailers is a good sign for not only the movie, but those who hope to see a Justice League movie one day". Is that all we want out of our CBMs now, a [frick]ing forced shared universe that all it does is limit the scope individual films can attain? Eff that. Seriously.

I too think MOS will be a very good film and do very well at the box office, but the competition of the summer is what makes me think it wont cross $1B. I just dont see MOS having the staying power unless theres some sort of oscar buzz for Shannon.

Okay I am not going to get into the whole Man Of Steel vs Avengers debate, but some food for thought. Superman Returns made close to 400 mill and that movie was boring as hell. If the action in Man Of Steel is what they say it is, I wouldn't be surprised if it doubled that figure.

@@LEVITIKUZ: I got your back! I agree with you 100%. MOS believe it or not is a sleeper movie. It will catch everyone off guard.

Believe it or not, deep down inside, EVERYONE loves Superman! SR brought in $400MM and it had tons of bad word of mouth. IMAGINE IF THAT MOVIE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD?!? That number could've EASILY been doubled!!

WB is advertising this movie correctly. They are using the fame Nolan's Batfilms generated by putting his name on all the advertisements! In every trailer, they show Crowe and Costner! People love them! These actors usually ONLY sign on to movies they feel are going to be good so they alone are a draw. Add Snyder's incredible visuals, how can this movie NOT break bank?

Plus Cavill has already sold most of the world on the fact that he IS Superman by looks alone! Wait until they see him act!! (By watching him on the Tudors, it will come so naturally to him that everyone else will be taken aback.) Those who have never seen Michael Shannon act will also be pleasantly amazed.

If it is great, this movie can easily break records. EASILY.

Superman was more popular than Batman until SR ruined everything. That is what? 70 years of Superman reigning supreme? All you doubters will be silenced come June. Mark my words. And if I'm wrong, then I'll admit to it. But I'm good at sh*t like this. I know I won't be.
