MAN OF STEEL May Have Had Something To Do George Perez Leaving SUPERMAN

We have heard some of the reasons why George Perez left writing Superman, but one of the newest ones was reveal at Toronto's Comic Con and it may have something to do with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

George Perez's run on Superman has been criticized to no end. Perez however has stated in recent interviews that DC had his hands tied as to what stories he could do. He also said that no being able to see what Grant Morrison was doing in Action Comics, which was set before Clark became Superman, limited his vision for the series. At this years Toronto Comic Con Perez has given one more reason why his run on The Man Of Tomorrow's self title didn't last. According to him Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan and the producers of Man Of Steel are having a say in what is going on in Superman comics. "They have to deal with people producing the movie, who also had a say in what’s going on in the comic as well. My one fear, I’m not producing a comic, I’m producing a storyboard for a movie, that’s not what I wanted to do," he said. He also went on to say that the powers that be at DC would change their minds constantly which made it extremely difficult to meet deadlines.

To see what else Perez had to say about his working conditions while writing Superman head on over to Bleeding Cool. You can check out Man Of Steel staring Henry Cavill as Supes on June 14, 2013.

Does he still work for DC at all? He seems to be dragging them through the mud a little.

PS. Is all the stuff he's been talking about really an excuse for such horrendous dialogue? I don't know...

Also, does this mean MOS Superman will be closer to the DCnU counterpart than the classic version?

There were always going to be niggles when the new 52 launched, but, I don't know, for me if Scott Snyder can write a great Batman comic, which I would assume, would have this supposed outside effluences such as a film based on the character coming out, then I don't see why he couldn't.

I don't see why he needed so much information about what Morrison was doing, he was clearly told about the suit, the kents were dead and that he fought the collector, what else did he need? For me, and I don't blame here, this smells like he did something bad and making excuses, as all his complaints haven't explained what was actually wrong with the book, which was poor villains, terrible dialogue and ott exposition.

As for writing to match the film, happens all the time, surely he cannot be surprised by this.

What happened? Did they say "MoS is coming out, where Zod is the villain, so could you hold off using him until nearer the time please?" Oh no, what a terrible request, this isn't politics, it is good business you release a comic using that villain when a movie comes out as there will be heighten interest and the audience will already be aware of the character before branching out into new areas.

Sad they tired his hands. Personally here lately the series has been picking up though, I thought it was interesting where someone else was accused to be Superman... lol

It seems to me that if you're starting an entirely new relaunch on a classic character then you can really do some new and innovative things with it. I've the excuses and I've read the comics and I'm sorry...Perez' run was stale. It's a shame too because Perez could have really started Supes relaunch off with an original kick ass bang! Hate Morrison all you want, but he had the balls to do a different spin on the Superman mythos. Perez could've done the same.

I've not read the book.

That said, DC seems to be pushing artists to write. Not all guitarists are great singers. It's better to stick to your strength than to produce mediocrity.

I don't mean to be an age-ist (sp?), but he's no spring chicken. He may not have thick skin anymore.

I'm betting that this bit of "news" is fake. Why is there no link, or at least some quotes from George Perez. It's all just paraphrased. Also, if George really said this at Toronto Comic-Con then why is this news just coming out now? Toronto Comic-Con happened 4 months ago!

FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!

Seriously stop making excuses Perez...you're a fantastic artist!!!

But story writer you are not...stick to what you are good at!!!

JLA/Avengers was one of the most amazingly drawn series in recent history...

Do not turn into an old winging fart like Alan Moore...

Perez is one of the finest artists that ever existed. Fact.
That photo up there from Man of Steel is a mirror image of his cover to JLA/ Avengers #4.
I don't care why it was sub-par, it just was. Move on. I still bought every damned issue, though and I enjoyed them. I especially enjoyed how he got every quintessential Superman line in there. I don't think he missed one.
The Grant Morrison excuse was, I think, a valid point. The Snyder/ Nolan excuse could also be true, but I think it's just part of Perez's dislike of movies. He's like Alan Moore, in that respect. But it would be awesome if Perez were to get involved in a cbm, besides being in the credits of The Avengers and having his Wonder Woman graffitied on a wall, in Cool World.

I never cared for Perez's art or dialogue. I'm sure DC was dictating things, but damn
