Before it was announced that Zach Snyder would helm the upcoming Superman:The Man of Steel there were numerous directors rumored to be connected with the film. Robert Zemeckis was among the list of rumored directors considering the job. MTV had the opportunity to ask him about the rumor.

"I passed on that faster than a speeding bullet."

You must have read that on the internet," he said of the rumors. "Don't trust everything you read on the internet! Isn't everything true on the internet?"

"When they asked if I wanted to make the, what is it, seventeenth version of 'Superman,' I said, 'No, I don't think so.'"

Zack Snyder is a great choice for the movie. He's def got the vision so I'm not mad that Zemeckis passed

It really does seem like he thought he was above doing it. Kind of makes him sound like he has a bit of an ego. I got all kinds of respect for him, though.

He comes across a bit of an ass in this doesn't he? Glad he passed!

Funny he hasn't made a movie with actual actors in at LEAST 15 years. And his next movie is going to be about time travel. Good to see he's trying to capture lightning in a bottle. Just because the Back to The Future movies worked 25 years ago doesn't mean it'll work again. Glad he's not doing Superman.

So the preferred director passed, and we got lumbered with Snyder.
Zemeckis is a great director, which leads me to think "if he turned it down, is the script actually going to be any good?".

That's funny because he made, literally, the seventeenth film version of A Christmas Carol.

None of that stuff about canned bad scripts is true. And if you had a bad script why the Hell would you hire Mark Millar of all people to re-write it? That coupled with the fact that before that news leaked WB announced they weren't hiring writers for any more projects until 2011.

He sounds like a [frick]ing asshole,the guy hasn't worked
on anything with any appeal since the 80's. I mean that
the Back To The Future movies were the only movies that
he worked on that I enjoyed and that I thought were worth
actually watching.

He doesn't realize that there are so many Superman movies
because of the lousy sequels, before Superman Returns. And
lastly,he doesn't know that Superman Returns didn't do
good enough at the box office for Warner Brothers.

The thing he doesn't realize, I guess, is that while we have seen many different interpretations of Superman on film, we've yet to see a TRULY DEFINITIVE version. Even the original Donner movie (which I love) has some glaring flaws. Superhero movies are a genre that has only gotten better over time. Think about it - how many other genres have a new BEST MOVIE IN THIS GENRE come out every few years? It started with Superman in 78, and it's been building and building exponentially. Superman in 78, Batman in 89, Blade in 98, X-Men in 00, Spider-Man in 02, X2 in 03, Spidey 2 in 04, Batman Begins in 05, a dry spell for two years while the studios dicked around too much with the franchises only to learn from Iron Man and The Dark Knight in 08 that the best way to make lots of money is to make awesome movies - and now we have potentially promising upcoming THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE AVENGERS, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, X-MEN FIRST CLASS (sorry haters, but there isn't even a trailer yet), WOLVERINE 2, and MAN OF STEEL films. This genre is still going up up and away. What other genre almost annually adds films to it's all-time best list?

the only thing that makes me believe in this project is Christopher Nolan, but Zack Snyder?...... you can be sure you people will have the action that Superman has been missing since 1980 but not all is action (Michael Bay Transformers)there has to be drama to make this a good movie!

300 was a cool movie (visually) but Nolan movie are more complex and i don't want to see a simple movie out of Superman, and i know the crew of Nolan is writing the movie but at the end the Director has the last word.... btw in DK when joker's truck made a 180 everyone the theater screamed! in 300 probably was all personal joy for everyone
