With the announcement of Kevin Costner I am going to try and beat the buzzer. Superman needs Lindsay Lohan. The use of Costner for Synder’s Man of Steel is a great move, an awkward and ironic move to bring in a falling actor back into the fold for a performance that will surely credit Costner as much as it credits Synder’s choice of Costner. Like Snyder’s Watchmen, there is a pattern that acting ability and skill is not what is important (I thought that Watchmen was a beautiful film, but you can’t deny at least some of the ensemble cast put in some terrible acting performances). So Costner is a great choice, an absurd in a good way choice, and leads me to believe the rumors of Lindsay Lohan in the female lead will play out to be true as well.
The cast so far is missing a certain glow, a certain, I don’t know, a crazy famous appeal. I’m not saying, let’s throw Charlie Sheen in as the bad guy, but even the current Sheen appeal is reason to suspect America will be more than happy with Lohan back on the big screen. She will bring a great sex appeal with Snyder’s epic visual style, a great fame appeal to outway the lesser known British lead, a great awkward are-you-crazy-you-are-going-to-put-her-in-a-movie-I-got-to-see-this appeal. Not too mention, I think she has more than enough acting ability. For Synder in particular, as mentioned above, he can direct bad actors and picks actors based on the role not necessarily there ability to consistently put out good films(it has been awhile since Costner or Lohan has acted in a “good” movie).
I am crossing my fingers, not only do I think she will end up in the movie, I want her to. She's hot. She's cool. She is criminal, that is bad ass, it doesn't even make sense. I love the wholesome Diane Lane, the ironic old school Kevin Costner, the quiet good looking British guy, and the wild out of control hot babe, the iconic Lindsay Lohan.
