Tollin/Robbins Productions Settles SMALLVILLE Lawsuit With Warner Brothers

A legal mess that has dragged out for sometime now over tens of millions of dollars between Warner Brothers and Smallville showrunners Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins has been settled. Click here for the details.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Tollin/Robbins Production company has settled its on going lawsuit with Warner Brothers over the TV show Smallville. The lawsuit, filed roughly a year before the show ended, saw the production company seeking around 100 million dollars in damages after Warners made what it called a sweetheart license-fee deal with its sister TV networks. In other words Tolin and Robbin claim that WB undersold the show so that it could stay on one of its networks instead of seeking higher dollars on a rival network.

Yesterday, the Tollin/Roberts Production company filled a motion in the Los Angeles Superior Court to dismiss the case, saying they have settled with Warner Brothers. A source from WB has also confirmed this to THR. While they were seeking around 100 million, financial terms of the settlement have not been disclosed at this time.

While this is good news for Warner Brother, they are not out of the woods on the issue quite yet. Killara Productions, run by Smallville co-developer Miles Millar as well as Alfred Gough's Leonardtown Productions are still seeking damages. WB is looking to capitalize with next years Man Of Steel, and have caught some traction with the movie thanks to a good trailer. However, if this lawsuit is ongoing it could look bad for them, and possibly detour fans from the movie. Only time will tell. You're insane if you think something like a lawsuit over freakin SMALLVILLE is going to deter ANYBODY from seeing Man of Steel.

Hold on...this lawsuit was because Warner Brothers sold a Warner Brothers show about a Warner Brother-owned character to a Warner Brothers-owned network?

That would be like Pepsi making Pepsi Cola available in Coca Cola vending machines instead of their own.

I happen to love smallville, its not the best superhero show, but it did had had good cast, mix back of writers and directors, and interesting re-imaging on supermans 80+ mythos, plus revee passed the torch to tom, and all sueprmans where there (well the modern era ones). it wasn;t the greatest show on tv (that would be a tie betwen spectacular spider-man, Batman TAS, Burn notice, royal pains, lost girl, and so many more) could of been better. doomsday was a waste and Sam Witmer is the american Shawn Bean.

Smallville was a steaming pile of dog shit. Unfortunately, I was one of the gullible few who watched right through to the finale in the hopes of it getting better. What a slap in the face to Superman fans.

Who is going to avoid Man of Steel because of a lawsuit. In all reality most of us had no idea about it until this article. I say that this is a non factor in Man of Steel.

SMALLVILLE WAS BRILLIANT...

Why everyone is sledging it so much has got me stumped...

It seems you'se would prefer to watch a non comic related show like Neighbours or Coronation Street or something...

A comic book show that lasted 10 years is nothing to sledge at...

@ AUSSYACE

no i would rather watch shows like lost,heroes,fringe,the walking dead,breaking bad,game of thrones,eastbound & down,american horror story & so on.

smallville lasted ten years because most viewers didn't know how to change the channel or their remote was broken.

cw milked the shit out of that show,its probably the best show on that network & that's not saying much.

AUSSYACE - 1/3/2013, 6:22 PM
@marvel72

I agree with what your kinda saying as I enjoy The Walking Dead, American Horror Story but not too many are serious comic character related...

To take a character like Clark Kent and give him 10 seasons is a huge effort but then again I would of rather have seen a GOTHAM CITY series with a younger Bruce Wayne...

@teabag

BIG Brother got axed here Down Under about 5 years ago cause it failed so bad and then they kicked it off again last year as a revamp and it bombed even further...

Not too many people watch SHITE here Down Under because the weather is too good to spend outdoors and NOT indoors when it rains and is freezing cold all year around except for 2 weeks of the year...

I know...I lived in London for 2 years...

I didn't even know this was going on. Say what you will about Smallville, but it lasted for 10 seasons.

No other TV show based on a comic book property has lasted that long. I think it will be a very, very, very longtime before another does.
