To commemorate the start of shooting earlier this year, SUPERMAN director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn shared a first look at the Man of Steel's new costume.
We only got to see the hero's chest, but with a logo inspired by Kingdom Come and a texture which is likely to bring the overall design more in line with the comics, fans have been happy with what they've seen for the most part.
However, two big questions remain: will Superman have the trunks and what will his cape look like?
At least one of those may have been answered today after Gunn responded to a photo shared by David Corenswet of his adorable pet pooch. As you can see, the background features what appears to be a red cape, and the filmmaker's response to a fan who asked about that has all but confirmed it does indeed belong to the Kryptonian protector of Metropolis.
If so, it's a vibrant, simple design which should really pop off the screen when SUPERMAN swoops into theaters next year.
This comes after Gunn also took to Threads to seemingly debunk recent rumours that Supes will square off with Ultraman. However, some haven't managed to look beneath the surface and read between the lines; while he confirms that Lex Luthor is the reboot's main antagonist, Gunn never actually denies plans for a Superman clone to appear.
He even ends his post by suggesting fans stop spoiling themselves, and based on what we've also been hearing, Luthor 100% will not be SUPERMAN's only villain. The main one, sure, but the writer and director has some ultra-cool ideas which likely won't be confirmed until that first trailer drops...
Take a closer look at what may be Superman's cape below.
SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been tapped to star as Lois Lane.
The movie's supporting cast includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
Milly Alcock is also expected to make a cameo appearance as Supergirl before taking flight in her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
SUPERMAN is currently set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
