SUPERMAN: LEGACY Gets A New Synopsis As DCU Reboot Prepares For March Shoot

James Gunn's Superman: Legacy is reportedly set to begin filming next March, and we also have a brief new logline for the DCU Man of Steel reboot...

Previous reports have indicated that James Gunn's Superman: Legacy is set to begin filming early next year, and we may now have a more specific shoot date along with a new logline.

Production List reported that cameras are scheduled to begin rolling around March 4 earlier today, and Collider has now backed up the initial report, although they believe principal photography is more likely to begin around mid-March.

The brief synopsis reads: "Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent."

Not exactly in-depth or revealing, but then it's not exactly surprising that major plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being.

David Corenswet will star as the latest big-screen take on the Man of Steel, and recent photos have revealed that the actor has bulked up considerably for the role.

Superman: Legacy will also star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

More recently, Sara Sampaio signed on to play Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, and Skyler Gisondo has been cast as Jimmy Olsen.

Members of the anti-hero team The Authority are also expected to appear, and María Gabriela de Faría (Animal Control) has been cast as Angela Spica/The Engineer.

Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Production is scheduled to get underway early next year.

Yup. That’s a Superman synopsis. Including that he’s a cub reporter is so intentional, refreshing, and needed too.

@GhostDog - Got a great feeling for this one… less so on the ones Gunn is merely producing

@tmp3 - I’ve had issues with Gunn but everything he says about this movie you see he understands the WEIGHT OF IT. The character is due. I think he’ll deliver.

I just hope that they don't do that thing Smallville did, where they acted like Clark had to constantly apologize for, and fight against his kryptonian lineage. The more I got into superman comics the more bizarre that seemed.

@oldnoname - The concept of Smallville was an ok idea but it finished 5 years too late. They really could have got the point across within 5 seasons.
Too many filler episodes, way too many villains and other heroes before Clark even became Superman, the acting was atrocious and the costumes were very pathetic. Plus WB/CW network is full of teany-drama.

Based on the current state of comic book movies, more than just the DCU might be riding on this one. What gives me hope is the fact that Gunn's been hinting at the things I've been wanting to see from a Superman film for a while now, save for that ensemble superhero cast.

Still, feel like he's earned the benefit of the doubt. Here's hoping...

Only major villain with ties to Krypton other than Zod is brainiac. 👀

@Mrtoke - depends on which book you are reading

harryba11zack - 12/21/2023, 6:12 PM
@Mrtoke - hope not, brainiac has had enough exposure in recent years with the games, I'd prefer someone different like Mongul.

lazlodaytona - 12/21/2023, 6:16 PM
@harryba11zack - I say keep the 1st film to Luthor and two other basic villains. Metallo, Parasite, Bizzaro ... whatever. Few more DC movies with the hint of Brainiac here and there in a few. Then Justice League teams up for the fight against Brainiac.
Mongual in the 2nd just Superman flick can be the protagonist or Vandall Savage .... or Lobo, save Darkseid for JL2.

This is an article from August where that same log line was just casually at the end of the article. So who knows how far back the synopsis was actually ‘revealed’. It’s missing the words ‘cub reporter’, but other than that it’s the same longline word for word

I want Superman: Legacy to end with Clark discovering the Fortress of Solitude and we hear a famous actor's voice saying "Welcome, Kal-El." Then Clark hears his Kryptonian name from him for the first time. Thus, the role of Jor-El is a brief voice cameo.

Good synopsis but Gunn SERIOUSLY needs to lay of his social media. His addiction is about as bad as a 14-year-old-girl when it comes to the phone.
Sometimes things are more enjoyable the less you know about it going in. Anyone, as a kid, find their Christmas presents hidden before they've been wrapped? It's cool at first but leaves that morning a little bit of a dud.
