Jesse L. Martin Joins The Cast Of THE FLASH As 'Detective West'

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Law & Order's Jesse L. Martin has signed up to play Detective West alongside Grant Gustin's Barry Allen/The Flash. According to a description posted by the site, Martin will portray, "an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence." Originally set to use an upcoming episode of Arrow as a backdoor pilot, the plan is to now give The Flash his own pilot episode this Fall. How do you guys feel about this news?

He was a main character in RENT (The Original Broadway Cast AND Film) he's a phenomenal actor. (And singer, not that it matters in this case) I'm okay with this choice.

The fact that [frick]ing Quicksilver will show up in not just one, but two movie franchises before Flash gets some real big screen treatment shows how much Warner is completely clueless when it comes to the DC Comics Universe?

I still think this standalone Flash TV series is a bad idea, considering how eager WB is to get a Justice League movie off the ground. Pick lesser-known, ancillary characters and make series' about them.

Maybe one of the many reasons they pushed back on the Superman/Batman movie date was to help establish this Flash first so they can incorporate him as a cameo along with Arrow's GA.

@Zauri Not saying I don't agree with how ridiculous it is that (in the 2000s) DC so far has only been successful with a Batman Trilogy and one Superman movie so far, I will say that Quicksilver will probably play a pretty small role in DOFP and he'll be part of an ensemble in AOU. Marvel definitely would make a Quicksilver solo film right out the gate, that'd be 10x more riskier than a Flash film.

Really dug this Gustin kid's appearances on Arrow. Looking forward to seeing what he's capable of when he gets the full spotlight. If this show winds up half as good as Arrow, then it should be a treat.

I'm so sick of DC/WB changing the race of major characters just because they can or because of fear of protest the NAACP! This casting only makes sense if they go with the story of how Iris and her brothers dad was abusive and he adopts them and Barry. He is a great actor and it's a good choice but I just don't want to see Iris changed which will definitely have an effect on wally west! Just not fair to screw with the mythology so drastically!

Such racist bullshit. Instead of replacing every damn white character with a black replacement, just CREATE new black characters.

DIGGLE is a freakin awesome character and he is completely original.

Future generations will look back at this period of cinema, television and comics as an equally racist period as the 20's, 30's and 40's. Too bad we never learn
