Continuing tomorrow at London's Butlers Wharf, principal photography for Marvel's Thor: The Dark World is scheduled this month to “showcase London in a major way.” However, we've now received confirmation that filming will soon head north, overseas in Iceland, which was first reported back in early August. While attending The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival 2012, ‘Malekith the Accursed’ actor Christopher Eccleston discussed the villain role, confirming he'll take part in the scenes that'll be filmed in the Nordic European island country.

According to sources, director Alan Taylor will return to Iceland, where he filmed parts of Game of Thrones, within the next two weeks for Thor: The Dark World. And the Marvel sequel's production will apparently consist of nearly 400 crew members. Also, several Londoners spotted the anticipated sequel's production crew shooting “effects scenes” at the famous Leadenhall Market earlier today. And as previously reported, shooting will continue tomorrow around Butlers Wharf. Then later this month, filming will move to the Old Naval College at Greenwich. And regarding where exactly in Iceland will filming occur, that's currently unknown.

Monday UPDATE: Filming is underway right now near Tower Bridge and at Butlers Wharf, as promised. The crew has been spotted setting up for scenes that'll be considered tracking shots. Both a camera-equipped UAV and motorbike have been spotted.

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

A local UK band named We Dig For Fire are keen on getting a spot on the official soundtrack of Thor: The Dark World. And having met a few legit people while visiting the Bourne Wood set, it's quite possible. Take a listen to their track, Trondheilm:

@Pux: They had to ease into the magical side of the Marvel Universe. Remember all those people saying Thor wouldn't fit into the Iron Man world?

In Thor it was "magic and technology one and the same", in Avengers "how much dark magic did Odin...", I'd say they will go more and more magical, no need to explain it that much if they go slowly.

The pics we've seen that looks more medieval are probably from the other realms. Asgard will look the same. Iceland with some blue tint could be Jotunheim.

No need to worry just yet ;)

"Not that I don't like the direction Thor TDW is heading (Game of Thrones is [frick]ing brilliant), but it seems a little inconsistent with what we saw in the first movie."

As already mentioned, there are nine different realms in Asgard, all being different environments. The rain jungles of Brazil don't look the same as the Saharan desert and neither look like New York City. One needs to understand the different nature of the nine realms.

@Pux: Blame Daniken all you want but historically, nearly all fields of Science have stemmed from Magick and Alchemy... It's definitely not some Hocusy Pocusy crap that most people think due to lack of understanding or how some frauds have misrepresented it.

Look up "cymatics" and how sound and energy manipulate reality or read anything on how quantum sciences are now being applied.

Svartálfaheimr is a realm that is going to have a medieval feel to it. To make it feel like a Game of Thrones environment to me, will make it feel more real and authentic. It doesn't mean that we won't see Thor using his powers and we wont feel the presence of advanced Asgardian technology. I don't doubt we will see plenty of the science/technology/magic side of things mixed in with the various realms that they travel to. The realms themselves aren't all going to look technologically advanced like Asgard because...they aren't.

@Ranger, good way of putting it. I will be pissed if they drastically change how Asgard looks. I really hope it doesn't look too much like Game of Thrones.

My only question is if Kurse is going to be a major part of this movie, is the "Beyonder" going to make some type of appearance. Since the beyonder is who "suped up" Kurse and made him a dangerous foe for Thor.
