Marvel Studios has a stellar track record but many fans agree that they stumbled somewhat with Thor: The Dark World back in 2013. Despite that, the Alan Taylor helmed sequel has a score of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and it grossed over $644 million at the worldwide box office.

Regardless of whether you loved or hated the movie, we're now taking a look at some of the artwork which was used to bring Asgard and its many inhabitants to life after Kenneth Branagh's first instalment (mostly) kept things grounded here on Midgard.

In this latest round of artwork from Thor: The Dark World, we take a look at alternate designs for Algrim, Kurse, and the Dark Elves. Algrim and Kurse are obviously one and the same but they're also very different due to the transformation the villain goes through. As for the Dark Elves, it turns out that they could have looked way cooler!

I feel like if they don't cut out all the good Dark Elf stuff that we're having a much different convo about TTDW

I kinda liked how there was so much focus on the internal Asgardian drama that makes the Dark Elves more of an external issue that they just have to deal with, but by the time Thor and Malekith meet in London we still don't really *know* Malekith and he and Thor have exchanged a total of 1 lines prior to that. Again, there's a way to make that work very dynamically, but it requires more legwork which Marvel seemed to have cut out in the edit

That Dark Elves had really cool designs, especially with their creepy looking masks. I wish Malekith looked a bit more visually interesting.

And god did I hate Kurse. One of the most annoying presences in this film. This guy is just overly powerful for no reason and his fight with Thor in the Dark World was both frustrating and boring to watch. And of course he just dies because Loki.

Dark World is definitely in my bottom tier of MCU movies. It's not terrible imo, but it's blah. I put it down there with Incredible Hulk, IM 2, Ant Man and Wasp, Black Panther, and the first Thor.

i never understood why movies refuse to use the designs of comics. always go for boring and generic.

Why do people do this to dark world but everyone seems to love ragnarok. Its poorly designed, written, and directed. Its space ball buts its suppose to be a serious movie. No character development, things happen just to happen not to move the plot along. That is the worst mcu movie period. Its was written for people who dont think about what's they see they just enjoy action and laughter. But thor has never been the witty it's not him. It's like batman doing one liners in justice league and everyone complained about it.

I really wished they had handled Malekith differently (and cast him differently as well), he could have continued to be a real terror in the MCU.
