Earlier today, Marvel Studios finally announced the cast of The Fantastic Four. The reboot, which has already moved its release date a handful of times, will now arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025, the slot once held by Thunderbolts.
That had been scheduled for this December before last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but will now head our way in 2025 slightly sooner than expected on May 2, 2025 (which, you guessed it, was the date once held by The Fantastic Four).
As for Captain America: Brave New World, despite extensive reshoots being planned for this year, it's still set for a February 14, 2025 debut.
Thunderbolts will bring together Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, and Ghost under the watch of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine for a battle with The Sentry.
Talking last December about what fans can expect from the movie, U.S. Agent actor Wyatt Russell said, "Jake Schreier is the [Thunderbolts] director, and we worked together on six episodes of [Lodge 49]. So it just feels like we’re going for something that has depth and something interesting to theorize about beyond just flying around and doing superhero stuff."
"That’s awesome and cool, and it’ll be in there, too, obviously, but I’m hoping to do what we’ve done with [Monarch: Legacy of Monsters]. There’s a human element to this and those characters. They’re hard stories to write and do, but if you work hard enough and you really put your heart and soul into it, you can always make them great."
"So I’m really looking forward to working hard and having a blast," Russell concluded. "They’re so fun when you let them be fun, and I could not be more excited."
Thunderbolts' confirmed cast members include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
Recently, Geraldine Viswanathan replaced Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role, while Lewis Pullman has taken over as The Sentry following Steve Yeun's shock departure from the movie. Both he and Edebiri are said to have left due to scheduling issues.
Written by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin, and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is currently set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025 May 2, 2025.
