THUNDERBOLTS Gets A New Earlier Release Date Following THE FANTASTIC FOUR Cast Announcement

Marvel Studios has made some changes to its 2025 slate following The Fantastic Four's casting announcement, and that means we're now getting Thunderbolts sooner than expected! Find the latest update here.

Earlier today, Marvel Studios finally announced the cast of The Fantastic Four. The reboot, which has already moved its release date a handful of times, will now arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025, the slot once held by Thunderbolts

That had been scheduled for this December before last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but will now head our way in 2025 slightly sooner than expected on May 2, 2025 (which, you guessed it, was the date once held by The Fantastic Four).

As for Captain America: Brave New World, despite extensive reshoots being planned for this year, it's still set for a February 14, 2025 debut.

Thunderbolts will bring together Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, and Ghost under the watch of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine for a battle with The Sentry.

Talking last December about what fans can expect from the movie, U.S. Agent actor Wyatt Russell said, "Jake Schreier is the [Thunderbolts] director, and we worked together on six episodes of [Lodge 49]. So it just feels like we’re going for something that has depth and something interesting to theorize about beyond just flying around and doing superhero stuff."

"That’s awesome and cool, and it’ll be in there, too, obviously, but I’m hoping to do what we’ve done with [Monarch: Legacy of Monsters]. There’s a human element to this and those characters. They’re hard stories to write and do, but if you work hard enough and you really put your heart and soul into it, you can always make them great."

"So I’m really looking forward to working hard and having a blast," Russell concluded. "They’re so fun when you let them be fun, and I could not be more excited."

Thunderbolts' confirmed cast members include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

Recently, Geraldine Viswanathan replaced Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role, while Lewis Pullman has taken over as The Sentry following Steve Yeun's shock departure from the movie. Both he and Edebiri are said to have left due to scheduling issues.

Written by Eric Pearson and Lee Sung Jin, and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is currently set to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025 May 2, 2025.

My gosh that third act of Black Widow was so awful.

@HulkisHoly - it was like covid had people running outside for 20 seconds to film a scene before going back to quarantine. Taskmaster is suppose to have a strong personality like Deadpool, but the new character they invented is sucks

@Matchesz -1) this ain't the comics. It's a different character. Get over it. 2) There was no oppurtunity in BW for the character to express any kind of personality. You should save your whines for May 2025 when they may turn out to be appropriate.

@Matchesz - I feel like there should be a twist with Mason. He should be Anthony Masters and he created the "Taskmaster" tech. But he sold it to Drakov for Antonia. But secretly Mason was perfecting the tech for himself and used Antonia as a proof of concept. And he has gone by multiple alias through the years including his original identity with shield "Clay Quartermain".

@JDL - Wow, this response is a little... cold. I would've responded with something like, "Gee maybe the plan is to evolve her character to be more like that now that she is no longer being mind control. See, intelligent without being insulting or condescending

@soberchimera - the ghost was such an excellent character back when Layton was doing Ironman. I never liked the skinny one that was in the thunderbolt's comic. He might as well had been dc's "weasel"

@SpideyQuad - The problem I have is that people are over the top insistant that this cbaracter must be the same or nearlt the same as the one in the comics, which is bull. It's getting real, real, old and frankly I have gotten to the point that I am being rather blunt about it. So sorry, not sorry.

I miss Yelena. Get her paired up with Bucky and give me some pseudo Brubaker style stories dammit!

Looking forward to Thunderbolts.

@Matchesz - They fought in Civil War. She said "you could at least recognize me" which hinted at some backstory but they did nothing with that. Then they were in like the same shots in Infinity War and that was it lol. Wasted potential.

@Polaris -I mean , didn’t he try to kill her once

They mention it in TWS , that was the extent of the backstory with those versions.
Matchesz
Matchesz - 2/14/2024, 2:21 PM
@Polaris - yeah that's true, kinda felt like ironman could have wished her back to life as part of a trade and it would have made his death more meaningful cuz he just saw her as a piece of ass from the jump lol. and we could have got more of that.. but him with Yelena feels better to me, the actress is great

@Polaris - I agree, Black Widow should have been a series imo. could have had some cool espionage mission impossible type flashbacks and could've showed the red guardian v. Cap or Isaiah Bradley fight and done more with black widow and bucky. But they thought it was better to pair her up with the Hulk remember lol

@TheManWithoutFear - super soldier love, could be a good basis for rated R. Black widow versus white wolf… Who's on top!

I know a lot are concerned with this movie but there is certainly a lot of talent in this group feel it largely hangs on quality writing.

I do hope they do Sentry justice but his experiences as Bob aren't exactly on brand for Disney. I do love Sentry as a character

I wish they did Dark Avengers and Siege before all this Multiverse stuff

Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening.

This is an interesting project. It's the first cross-funtuonal team in the MCU since The Avengers. The Eternals have different powers, but are all the same group of people. Will this the the Suicide Squad of the MCU or something different.

I'm also all for non-powered people going up against powered beings.

@Itwasme - It is the first team up from different movies since the Avengers. GOTG and Eternals were already formed.

I’m not excited with the lineup, but a covert ops team could be neat if they do it well.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 2/14/2024, 2:21 PM
@mountainman - good point. I guess that what I meant about cross-functional.

I like the idea of a covert ops team against something waynover their head. They're going to need a creative solution to this and I hope they deliver.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 2/14/2024, 2:44 PM
@Itwasme - me too

Both Suicide Squad movies did it , one executed it well and the other didn’t do it can work
mountainman
mountainman - 2/14/2024, 2:45 PM
@Itwasme - I would love a covert ops team doing covert ops stuff. Both Suicide Squad movies had to “big” of a villain at the end.

Sentey seems like too much for them, but I guess we will see how it plays out.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 2/14/2024, 3:13 PM
@mountainman - I agree about films not needing end of the world scenarios. I actually think that was an issue in The Winter Soldier (though I know people love that film). It just didn't need the helicarrier stuff, it could have just been that Shield was taken over.

In this case I could go either way. I liked how Gunn did the last one, it was covert until it wasn't. What i like about this team is that there are no real powers. Both SS films had some Fantastical elements to their teams.
mountainman
mountainman - 2/14/2024, 3:41 PM
@Itwasme - Winter Soldier is my favorite MCU movie but the heli carrier ending is a bit over the top. The saving grace of that finale is the Steve/Bucky stuff.

Regarding The Suicide Squad, Starro was a bit much, but it was such a small part of the movie and it was true covert ops for the most part. The first Suicide Squad had the silly goo zombies and that finale with two vastly over powered beings was just ridiculous.
SpideyQuad
SpideyQuad - 2/14/2024, 4:16 PM
@mountainman - if they can move and react anything like Cap a could be pretty exciting. Bandar bolts are basically a super soldier group. It would be interesting to see how they compare since they've taken different types of the serum. With the exception of ghost
