The first box-office results for Transformers: DOTM are in! The third and reportedly final Michael Bay-directed film in the multi-million franchise seems likely that it'll be yet another box office success (despite mixed reviews), scoring a total of $13.5 million just from the midnight showings. Coming Soon has the info...

The third installment earned $5.5 million at the 9pm Tuesday night screenings in 2,700 3D theaters and added more 2D screens at midnight to take in $8 million at that time for a total of $13.5 million so far.

The studio is estimating the movie will make between $155 million to $165 million through the July 4th holiday, but we'll keep you updated with more box office reports.

This was filmed in 3d so it will make a billion world wide , you listening Marvel and DC . Because it is not being filmed in 3d I don't think the Avengers will do a billion but it could have . That is the difference between the real blockbusters like Avatar , Pirates and Transformers and everything else .

I personally think the Transformers soundtrack is what got people pumped the beat used for the trailor was awesome. I'm hoping the Avengers works on that as well.

@Arminies

No, TF3 will make more in the US in 5 days than GL made in 3 weeks worldwide.

I enjoyed it. 3D just doesn't do much for me. After the first 10 minutes it just doesn't have the efffect on me it should. I enjoyed the Cybertron scenes in 3D at the opening though.

Yeah, it's a safe bet that TF3 will have made more by Sunday than Green Lantern will make in its entire domestic run. The Hollywood Reporter put GL at #6 of their list of the Top 10 Flops of 2011 (so far), so it reputation is looking fairly set in Tinseltown.

I think the $165 mil through July 4th is a BS number. We're talking about Tuesday night all the way to Monday, which is a holiday. It did $13.5 on a Tuesday (can't stress that enough, not like a Thursday midnight when people can take Fri off work) with just 2 early screenings (9pm and 12am). Today it'll play all day and then go all the way to Monday. If demand stays high it could easily go over $200 mil domestic. Everyone I know is pumped to see this!

Well, TF2 made $16m on Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning midnight shows, where as this one only did $8m combined with $5.5m from earlier Tuesday evening showings. So it's definitely behind the pace of the last one.

I think word of mouth will help it even if it is lighter than ROTF. Also, ROTF opened more than a week prior to July 4th so since this Monday will be part of an extended box office weekend I think it'll have a huge number. It still probably won't hit $400 mil like ROTF did.

Ample doses of "Depakote" required. If you've ever wondered what having a seizure is like, "Transformers: DOTM," is your ticket to ride.

"DOTM" is a non-stop orgy of pointless, mind-numbing robot destruction and violence highlighted by an endless parade of mechanical innards whizzing across the screen at 200 MPH.

As for the rest of the movie, the plot is a convoluted mess and the human characters are a joke. Not only is their acting bad but the dialogue appears to have been scripted by a 9 year-old. Also, over the course of 2 hours horn-dog Michael Bay reduces women to nothing more than mindless, annoying hump magnets. Look no further than the frequent up close ass and crotch shots of pneumatic Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and the "Vivid" contract girl lookalikes in the background.

Sadly, even the Transformers are lame. Unlike the cartoon and comic books of the 80's, none of the key Transformers are developed enough in the story to the point where you care what's happening to them.

In summary, Michael Bay and the overrated Steven Spielberg succeed magnificently in further destroying a cool sci-fi premise that always had the potential to be awesome in the hands of a more competent, visionary director and producer.
