Michael Bay Hints That TRANSFORMERS 4 Will Continue On From The Last Movie

Previous reports suggested that the fourth Transformers flick would reboot the franchise and feature an entirely new cast of humans and robots, but the man responsible for inflicting upon bringing us the first 3 seems to contradict that..

We all read Michael Bay's statement from a while back, which stated that the third entry in the Transformers franchise - "Dark Of The Moon" - would be his last. Well, it won't be. In an interview with The Huffington Post, the director explains his reasons for returning. It has to do with a them-park ride or something..

"I thought I was done, then the ride came out and the two-and-a-half-hour lines. And then you're thinking, 'Oh my God, someone's going to take this over?' And you start doing a lot of soul-searching… I'm thinking that if I do this last one, we set it on a new footing and we change a lot of things, but we keep the history of the three in place. But we broaden it so it can be set up and be carried on -- it would have a better chance for survival, I guess… The bottom line is, when you go to Universal Studios and you have the two-and-a-half-hour line, it's hard to give it up. You birth a baby and you want to carry it on."

After saying that this fourth movie would "probably" be his last one, he reveals that those previous rumors of a whole new start for the franchise may well have been bogus, as he talks a little about the direction the screenplay is going - "We're basically taking from the history of where it was, or where we left it in Chicago, and we're going to carry it on from there." Doesn't sound much like a reboot to me. But it remains unlikely (at least from what we've heard) that any of the old cast members will return, so it seems as if we will get SOME type of new beginning.

Sounds like they're going the same direction as they're going with GI Joe 2. Have it be a direct sequel, but focus more on new characters.

I've got the perfect ending: all of the bots are fighting in one city, a nuclear bomb is dropped on the city, and all the bots are completely wiped out, so there's no WAY they can continue this without a non-Bay reboot.

Stop contradicting yourself, Bay. Your flip-flopping makes Mitt Romney look jealous. What's worse is that the reason he's coming back is because he was inspired by a theme park ride. Unlike most directors who return for sequels because they feel they have another story to tell.

Basically he saw the two-and-a-half hour line and realized, "Holy s**t! This is a money making machine! why the f**k am I giving this up?!"

Greedy childhood rapist.

I saw 3 last on netflix and I must say it is pretty badass.

Transformers 1-3 with humans and people screams "Too many humans", but then if they go with a robots only Transformers people will bitch and scream "where is the human element?"...there is no middle ground.

Transformers 1 & 3 were great. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to a 4 unless it were a reboot. T3 pretty much wrapped things up.

The bottom line is when they agree to greenlight the movie you really want to make and also drop a mother ton of money in your driveway, it's hard to say no.

I really loved the first one but 2 and 3 are just insulting to sentient life. bay seems to have some sort of hatred or poor view of both his characters and his audience

He says in that same interview that Peter Cullen will be back as the voice of Optimus Prime so we know at least one character will be back, albeit a non-human one. (don't know why they would try to continue without the main Autobot anyway!)

Galvatron/ the death of Optimus and the begining of Rodimus Prime seem to me to be the logic choice. The key word being logical. So it probably won't happen.

I definately think the third movie redeemed the trilogy as a whole. And I could get how maybe after the success of the third one, he started to think that while he was wanting to be done, that maybe he didn't leave room for another one to pick up without having to establish so much first.

So I would assume the fourth one will help establish a new trilogy to be had, giving us a grand total of 6 or 7 movies by time it runs it's course.
