Prime Video just recently gave a series order to the live-action adaptation of Ed Brubaker's Criminal and we now know who will be directing the first four episodes of the show.
Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who previously teamed to co-write and direct the first Captain Marvel film for Marvel Studios will helm the first four episodes of the show.
Fleck and Boden frequently collaborate having previously worked together on Masters of Air, Half Nelson, and the upcoming Freaky Tales.
Brubaker wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner, alongside novelist Jordan Harper,
The series is said to currently be in pre-production in Portland. Expect casting news to follow shortly.
The adaptation of Criminal is the latest development in Brubaker's transition from comics to television.
After working at Marvel and DC Comics for years (and famously creating the Winter Soldier for Marvel), Brubaker most recently worked on HBO's Westworld. He'll also serve as co-showrunner on the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader animated series for Amazon.
The graphic novel won an Eisner Award at three different ceremonies in 2007, 2012, and 2019.
In a previously released press statement, Brubaker stated, "Sean and I have been building this world in our books for over a decade, and now to be able to bring it to life for Amazon is just incredible. And to have Amazon support the project the way they have, and show so much faith in my and Jordan’s vision for the show is even more incredible."
Nick Pepper, head of U.S. SVOD wholly-owned development, Amazon MGM Studios also added, "Criminal is a beloved graphic novel created by the most iconic team in the history of comics. I know our global Prime Video customers will immediately embrace this story, and I look forward to working with Ed, Jordan, and the team to bring it to the screen."
