Back in October of last year, we had the official announcement that the critically acclaimed show The Walking Dead would be returning for a third season; now during the Saturday’s Television Critics Association, AMC confirmed that the new season of the zombie drama will consist of 16 episodes.

Information comes from AMC:
AMC announced today from the Television Critics Association (TCA) Press Tour in Pasadena, CA that the third season of The Walking Dead will consist of 16 episodes. Previous season orders were for 13 episodes. AMC's international broadcast partner FOX International Channels (FIC) will follow the 16 episode order and structure a similar schedule worldwide.

Season 2 of the show started on AMC last October, thirteen episodes are confirmed for the current season, with seven episodes already aired, and only six more episodes left when the show returns on February 12.

S2E08: "Nebraska":

After the barn incident, there is much conflict among both groups of survivors, Hershel wants Rick and his group to leave immediately and Shane accuses Rick to be just as delusional as Hershel saying that Hershel knew about Sophia the whole time and hid her from the group. Dale tells Andrea to be careful about her relationship with Shane since Dale knows what kind of person Shane is and now wants him gone from the group. He also reveals this to Lori, including the fate of Otis.

If more episodes waters down the season like this current one then I may not be able to stand watching this even though I love this show. Season 2 part 2 better be fantastic or people may stop watching

I do not mind at all, especially if the upcoming episodes really will be more like the first season.

16 episodes of season 3 eh, so that translates into 630 minutes of bullshit drama and talking and 32 minutes of zombie killing?

@Deadshot -The story isn't about zombies,it's survival horror story. The show is supposed to be about how people live their lives after the "zombie apocalypse" not about zombies, otherwise it would be one of a hundred zombie movies. What it is makes it unique from the rest.

Too many episodes will ruin this, it will mean more episodes of nonsense shit that has no point what so ever but get made just to fill the space AMC are slowly ruining this show

hopefully season 3 will be more action-packed and no farm-bullshit like now ...

@bixby4u There's a difference between a survival horror and a ****ing soap opera man, everyone's keeping secrets from each other, hooking up, people cheating on others, having secret babies, it doesn't even feel like their in the apocalypse anymore.

They barely found enough of a story in season 2 for the 7 eps. done so far. They better step up their game if they want to pump out 16 eps.

I hope Shane sticks around awhile, he's the only interesting character of season 2....imo.

@Deadshot Have you ever read the books? Soap opera like stuff happens in them all the time. If you don't like it or the source material, then don't watch it. It's been an ongoing monthly comic series for the last 9 years and has won the Eisner award for best ongoing series, so they must be doing something right.

@bixby4u Yep I have read all the books, most likely been a fan long before you. And the book yes it was more about the interactions among the group than the zombies, but not to this soap opera like degree, every page in the book you felt that zombies could come out of nowhere and kill everyone at any minute. You DO NOT get that feeling in any episode in season 2 so far. And if you say you do you are lying to me, and lying to yourself.

@Deadshot I agree that the second season has less action than the first and that it doesn't seem as unpredictable as the books.

It just gets to me after I've listened to many people complain about the show and the lack of zombies when they haven't read the books and just watched the first season a week before the second one started. The whole time they are expecting the non-stop action of a zombie movie.
